Drug Safety: There is a zero-tolerance alcohol and drug use on campus. Some student sneak around and do it anyway, but it's not the majority.

Campus Housing: Community at Biola is one of it's strongest points. You get to know the people living in your dorm very well with a lot of mass-dorm activities (GYRADs, all-halls, dorm competitions). The students are very welcoming and love to love on people! (If you're a girl, don't be afraid of Alpha... that all-girls is awesome!)

Local Area: La Mirada itself is a very safe place to live. It's a central location, so everything fun to do is twenty minutes in any direction: Angel's Stadium, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, LACMA, the beach, downtown Fullerton, a number of ethnic districts, and Los Angeles.

Health & Safety: Biola is one of the safest schools in the nation. We rarely have any safety incidences, and when we do, Campus Security is very good, very friendly, and cooperates directly with LA County Sheriff's Dept.

Transportation: Most things you need are within walking distance of the campus. There's a shuttle for things that are a bit farther that are free for students. A lot of students carpool together to go longer distances- riding with other students is really safe, and everyone here is willing to help each other out. For other options, Biola also has the We-Car option that rents out cars by hour or day, with gas and insurance included.

Off-Campus Dining: Biola isn't too far from LA, which is an endless food fest. There's a little India, little Korea, and a few other ethnic districts- you just have to know where to look! Pizza, Del Taco, Taco Bell, Chinese, Panera, Thai, and other restaurants are within walking distance from the campus. I know-I didn't have a car my entire student career.

Administration: You're at a Christian School that lays out a very clear no-drinking, no-gambling, no-drug-use, no-premarital-sex contract. If you have an issue with any of these, I'd say this is not the place for you. Most of the students honor the contract and enjoy living on a campus where they don't have to deal with the drama that these things bring.

Majors: As a psych major, you work with professionals in the field (either research or practicing therapists). The professors are all incredibly knowledgeable about the subjects they teach. Workload for any professor can vary, but you can expect to be writing a lot of research-based papers at any given time during the semester, especially for the upper-division courses. They have a lot of internship opportunities, both at the school and in the area, so you can accumulate real-life experience in whatever area of psychology you find interesting.

Transportation: Transportation at Biola is probably a little better than average. The school is central to 3 airports and at least two train routes and several bus routes transport close to the school.

Athletics: As a basketball player in high school, I absolutely follow both there men's and women's basketball teams. I also attend the baseball and soccer games on a regular basis. Biola sports are supported by our students and show great pride in all of our sports programs.

Health & Safety: We have the best, most prepared and knowledgeable security team around. Our campus security works closely with the local law enforcement agency and has even performed a joint Swat Tacticle exercise for a "Shooter" on campus, with the local agencies. Campus Police are visable in cars and on bikes and they interact with students all the time, making it easy for them to recognized individuals who might not belong on campus. I feel very safe on our campus.

Weather: Local weather for Biola is the best possible. We are located in sunny southern California. The average winter temp is approximately 70 degrees. As a student living in the dorms, there's nothing greater than having a wardrobe of shorts, t-shirts and sandels.

Scholarships: The counselor worked with me to acheive as much financial aid and scholarship money as possible. The tuition is pretty high here so I was on able to cover about a third of the cost. The rest is in student loans and I would suggest applying to as many scholarship applications as you possibly can.

Majors: I am a freshman and my major is Pre-Physical Therapy. I love my major for a good reason. During my junior year in high school I tore my ACL in my left knee while participating on the school basketball team. It was during my rehabilitation process that I discovered my major. I've always been involved as a volunteer either at school, with my church or the teen center near my home. Once I saw the care and nurturing the physical therapist working with me provided, I knew this is what i wanted to do. My chances of getting an athletic scholarship were deminished as a result of the injury, but I found a new passion in life that will give me a career. Biola has a great reputation in this field.

Majors: I've just begun checking out the intern programs at Biola and I've found that the University has many strong connections in the industry. I don't think I'll have any problems finding internships as graduating students from Biola have a strong commitment to reach back and help upcoming students.

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining is great. We have all the well known restuarants and coffee shops within five minutes of the campus. You can always find students at the local Starbucks, In-N-Out burger, Mcdonalds, Sonic Burger, and so many more, all offering discounts to Biola students. The Brea Mall is 5 miles away with shopping, theaters and more upscale dinning.

Academics: Biola University is a Christian liberal arts school. The focus is on teaching from a Biblical perspective and all students are required to take a minimum of 30 Biblical units to graduate. Professors are knowledgeable, caring and very approachable which makes learning at Biola less intimidating.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing at Biola is currently on the increase. There is new construction currently underway for additional housing. Apartments are really close to campus with plenty of parking and security coverage. Off-campus housing can actually be cheaper than the dorms if you have a couple of roommates splitting the cost.

Drug Safety: Biola University has a no tolerance drug policy and alcohol policy. As a freshman here at Biola I have not seen or experience any peer pressure to use either. Almost everyone I've come in contact with in my first year on campus are serious students striving to achieve their academic goals, which is one of the reasons I chose this college.

Local Area: Our school is located in a nice, quiet and safe residential area. There are several surrounding malls, shopping centers and restaurants within short driving distances. Biola University has a great Christian reputation, so the students are treated with great repect within the community. Since our campus is just south-east of Los Angeles, we are close to DisneyLand, Knottsberry Farm and local beaches. Hollywood, Doger Stadium and Angel Stadium are 30 minutes away in either direction. There's always something to do and great places to visit.

Biola boasts an amazing Christian fellowship that's focused on delivering the Gospel, not only to its students, but to the world surrounding it. In taking classes and attending lectures, students feel much more apt to take on the world, not only with renewed and strengthened faith, but also with a professional education.

Biola can be an adjustment. But once you get involved with on-campus jobs and school events, it becomes much easier. After spending time with the students and faculty, you'll come to realize that you'll never find a school quite like this. But it takes a little bit of work at first. Biola's teaching is amazing, and the community is unparalleled. Nowhere else on Earth can students strike up random conversations with anyone and be able to "Facebook-friend" them and ask them to coffee the very next day. If you value your education and want to surround yourself with God-fearing students serving each other and the Lord, then Biola is the place for you!
