Transportation: Transport in general is excellent. The T is at most a fifteen minute walk from anywhere on campus and is pretty reliable even though it can get kind of crowded. It's decently priced (something like $1.50).

Bus transportation is better in terms of effectiveness, and you can get a taxi anywhere. To get out of Boston, you can take the train at the end of the green line on the T, and the airport is fifteen minutes away.

Party Scene: Occasionally there are some decent apartment parties near the college, but they can get pretty cramped pretty quick. Try to venture out to other colleges who have more of a party scene. Transportation in general in Boston is awesome, BUT the T stops working around something like midnight, so you'll have to get a cab if you're gonna stay out late. The good bars and clubs vary, but there aren't very many for those who are 21+. At least not in the area.

Local Area: Boston is most likely the biggest college town in America. There are college kids every where I go and especially in the area I live in, Allston, MA. There are also plenty of places to go eat that range from pizza to Egyptian/Mediterranean cuisine. Also one of the best attractions out here is the Massachusetts Art Museum, I definitely recommend heading over there.

Majors: I'm not all that satisfied with being a performance major. Since it was so easy to get into, I feel as if it was not really worth it. Part of the reason is because I have other interests other than performing such as production and learning how that process works. I believe that in order to survive in the music industry, you need to have a variety of skills under your belt and that's exactly what I want to do. So, I would say the performance major was not the right fit for me, but it helped me realize that there are plenty of other possibilities out there for me.

Majors: Getting into the performance major was actually fairly easy. All I had to do was sign up and partake in an audition, get some paper work signed by a couple of my professors and the head of my department, and that was it simple as that.

Majors: There are few places that a music student could have so many options as to what major they would like to pursue. The workload for a student planning to double major will probably be quite a bit, but for somebody doing a single major the workload should be just right. For some it may feel like a lot of work to be here because music is never given a rest. If you aren't working on your harmony or ear training homework, you are in the practice room or playing in whatever way you can.

Off-Campus Dining: With Newbury street a couple blocks away there are tons of restaurants in downtown Boston to check out. They may not all be the most affordable for college students but there are plenty that are in a more student friendly price range. Many restaurants and nearby stores even except the Berklee card which is the student ID everyone must carry at all times. Money can be transferred to it by the student or their parents.

Campus Quality: Because Berklee is in the middle of downtown Boston, there is not quite a campus like one you would normally see, although a new skyscraper is being built to accomodate the increasing number of students. I like the current facilities a lot, however they are pretty crammed with over 3,000 students every day. There are places to exercise very near to the school such as the tennis and racquet ball gym. I have found that it is not hard to find help around campus from student centers etc. There are a lot of extracurricular activities to attend and they are definitely not all solely about music.

Campus Quality: I think Berklee is a very supportive environment for learning music, and with the sheer amount of people here you will always have somebody new to meet, jam with, or just learn with. The small class size is key to learning all that we can from the teachers here. Mentorship is very important as well, and I feel that I have a number of teachers here that I could call my mentor, which I could not be more thankful for.

Party Scene: When it isn't finals or mid-terms you can find jam sessions all over the dorms. School is really intense so most students don't really party hard. Those that do generally wind up not succeeding and dropping out. Still a great atmosphere for musicians of all kinds!

Technology: The computers are always open and ready to be used. If your in a hurry to print the lab instructors will give you a desktop and you'll be set to go. The printer always have ink too!

Campus Food: Berklee's food is good. The only problem i have is the vegetarian options. I have to eat the same meal everyday because Berklee doesn't have that many veggie options, but other than that the food is fine.

Greek Life: Our school doesn't have it's own Greeks. We have to leave campus to pledge. This is the one thing I don't like about Berklee.

Majors: I currently have an internship with Berklee's record label Heavy Rotations Records. It is awesome because we get to be hands on with the bands that are signed to the label, and see the debut mix CD come to life from start to finish and help put on the huge concert at the end of the semester for the city to attend. The faculty adviser is also one of my professors, so being able to work with him as a mentor has been a great learning experience.

Scholarships: Berklee does not offer enough opportunities for scholarships considering how expensive their tuition is and how many students attend the school. They make the guidelines of the scholarships that they offer so hard to meet, that it is only the same select few students who receive the bulk of the money. Financial aid as a whole has been a bit of a headache for me. According to the government, my parents make 'too much money' to receive any financial aid.. but my parents are not the ones paying for my education, I am. And trying to get help for that has been unsuccessful thus far.

Majors: The Music Business department at Berklee is fantastic. They have so many skilled and brilliant professors who offer not only their services as teachers, but as mentors as well. There are always opportunities to take part in that will better you as a student in this field, and the fact that Berklee has it's own record label that offers internships to anyone interested their senior year is amazing. The can be a bit behind in getting paperwork through sometimes when it is important, but otherwise.. top of the line. They want to see students succeed!

Health & Safety: The 'campus' is located in downtown Boston.. so it is not much of an actual campus. But there are a ton of security guards for each separate building owned by the school, and to access each building you must use your ID card at the scanner. They make sure that the crosswalks are clean and that the security measures taken in time of city-wide crime are top of the line. They do a great job of making sure it is safe, considering its location.

Academics: it depends on what teacher you have, that determines you're understanding of the material as well as your grade.

2 College Senior

Guys & Girls: there are people from all over, but not too many lookers!

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: Berklee doesn't offer any Health benefits other than insurance but theres no school clinic. If a student gets sick they have to find a hospital. The campus is Safe, there's security every where.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I love the program, but dislike some of the courses they put me in. I am a first semester student and I am no allowed to pick my classes. All the classes are great, but I do dislike two liberal arts classes I am taking that has nothing to do with music.

5 College Freshman

Campus Food: Great selection. Very tasty, not institutional. Convenient hours. Try the cheesy eggs!

Off-Campus Dining: The restaurant selection is quite good. Varieties of ethnic, cost, convenience, and flavors abound. However, I am a college students so unless it is for a very special occasion, eating out is not a way I prefer to spend my spare cash (when I have it).

Weather: Since it snows so much here in the winter and the city has found ways to manage it, classes rarely get cancelled due to the weather. Since I live off campus I find it really annoying especially when you'll have a class one day but you can't make it because it's snowing really hard and public transportation is at a stand still. But, other than that the weather in Boston is fairly nice .

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: Berklee has to be one of the top most diverse colleges/universities in the United States. It draws in all kinds of musicians from around the world with different cultural backgrounds and beliefs who just want to come together and make music. I never I thought I would be in a class where there would be someone from Scotland, Japan, and Africa all in the same room. It's also amazing how accepting everyone is here at Berklee; not once have I seen someone discriminate towards another student because of their race, religion, or sexual orientation. I truly believe Berklee College of Music is a great school in that sense and I am glad to be here.
