Perkins and Erbert's and Gerbert's Subs! There's the standard selection of fast food here...not many large restaurants though. We have a McDonalds, Qdoba, Burger King, Taco Bell, Perkins, Applebees, Erbert's and Gerbert's Subs, KFC, Subway, Taco John's, Hardee's, Pizza Hut, and some other places. Some of the restaurants and most of the local places offer student discounts. The best subs in town are at Erbert's and Gerbert's, and the best dinner is found at Perkins. Applebees has half-off appetizers around 4pm, so that's a must for any college kids looking for a cheap off-campus meal (we just order appetizers). Chinese food is a no-no here though (ick), and there is one sit-down Mexican place that is apparently really good. The choices get boring...but you can mix it up still. There are also great grocery stores if you want to make food.

Paul Bunyon Drive – One of the most unexpected things about Bemidji is the amount of restaurants and the diversity. I was expecting just a McDonald's, Dairy queen and a Subway, being the campus is in the middle of the city. On the contrary, there is food for everybody! Ethnic restaurants, fast food places( i.e. McDonald's, Dairy Queen...), a variety of pizza places and sub shops, Applebees, bars and grills, and of course the cozy little mom and and pop diners. It's all quite convenient because everything is within 2 miles of the campus. Being that there is such a variety, there is also a variety in prices. Most of everything is easy to afford on an average college kid's budget, which is great! Also, most places offer student discounts and coupons, which is awesome! In my opinion, you have to check out Giovanni's Pizza! They have everything, including gluten-free crust!

The bar scene isn't as "hopping" as the St. Cloud area or the Twin Cities, but it seems to fit just fine for the people of Bemidji. There is always something to do or some type of entertainment going on around town, especially in the summer months. A local bar, the Blue Ox, has show nights most Friday and Saturdays with a wide variety of music. Drinks are fairly priced at most locations, and you'll more than likely always run into someone you know. House parties are usually good for a large gathering of friends, but not many people are too willing to allow total strangers to damage their house and drink their alcohol. A safe bet is to go downtown. Plus cabs are cheap and campus is close!
