Health & Safety

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: Beloit Security is very friendly and approachable. The student RAs are well trained and responsible. Administration takes sexual assault on campus very seriously, and all incoming students are required to learn about and discuss issues surrounding sexual harassment and assault upon arriving at campus. Downtown Beloit is generally safe as well.

Health & Safety: I think that we definitely have more work to do in terms of how we handle sexual assault on our campus, but in terms of our security officers they are very friendly and approachable.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I feel generally safe on campus. Campus security is supportive and helpful and is open 24/7. In terms of the health center, there is very little access to mental health support which is my biggest problem with the Beloit administration.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I feel very safe on campus. Few crimes have been committed in the past year that I've been there. We have police boxes, but there don't seem to be that many. Sexual assault is a problem to a lesser degree than it is on many college campuses, and I do find it hard to judge our administration/policies on these things because I haven't had first-hand accounts of how these crimes are handled.

4 College Student

Health & Safety: It's good enough and safe.

Beloit College is like a room in your own home. The campus is pretty darn safe; the only real problems arise when people act stupid or irresponsibly. Campus security is always strolling through campus, looking for a chase, but they usually just get a "Hey, how's it going?" from the students passing by. There is definitely a good rapport between students and security officers. They are people we feel comfortable with, and we know they're watching out for us, even if that means calling us out on inappropriate behavior.

Students generally don't feel safe walking around the town at night-myself included. It's just not a good idea, especially if you're by yourself, and especially if you happen to be female. Campus, though, is safe. You can rest assured that those security officers can and will recognize a non-student intruder and will escort them outside our comfortable bubble if they can't give a good enough story.
