3 College Freshman

Campus Food: As a picky eater, I can always find something. Sometimes it's a sandwich for the 3rd meal in a row though. Good meat can be hard to come by. They don't rotate their meal so we always have something new, and they like to cook fancy meals from around the world

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: Commons considers enjoys using us as test subjects, I paraphrase from them.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The food is OK. They do pizza pretty well, and consistently. But sometimes Commons just tries too hard and ends in failure. A lot of the food is too bland, but they provide a lot of condiments, so that's nice. The food tends to be better during breaks, when there are less people on campus.

DKs is the best, they also provide Sunday dinner which you pay in Flex Dollars.

Java Joint has late-night open hours, the snacks are pretty good and there is ice cream all year long and warm/cold beverages. The sack lunches are a little questionable though, but if you're in a rush and don't have the time, it's OK.

4 College Junior

Campus Food: Commons offers a lot of variety, but sometimes I wish they had more fish options. The meal plan in general is inconvenient for Sunday dinner and cafeteria have weird hours.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Commons isn't so great, but DKs and Java Joint have a lot more options and tend to be a little higher quality.

Sometimes, the greatest part of the meal at Commons is the names they give their dishes. There's something they call "Enraged Pasta," which I wouldn't particularly recommend, and a couple times they made a cheese and hot dog soup that looked nauseating-not to mention the casserole-type things that looked an awful lot like a mixture of what was served at lunch. Commons can get pretty creative with their ingredients, and I'm convinced they know this, which is why we have the sandwich bar, grill, and the salad bar as staples when nobody wants to eat their latest culinary invention. One has to give them credit for cooking gigantic amounts of food, ranging from blech to belissimo, for a bunch of spoiled kids who are constantly looking for something to grumble about. The spaghetti is actually pretty impressive, as far as mass-production goes.

DK's stands its mediocre ground as the "grill" on campus. You can get hamburgers and grilled cheese, and fried this and fried that, snacks, and apple slices with caramel dip. There is also a sandwich bar for those who are feeling grease-free. This is more of the place to stop by for lunch on your way to or in between classes. It's not open on the weekends (no one would make the walk over there anyway), so you have to get your fill Monday through Friday, but avoid the rush hours. If anything, my biggest beef with the dining on campus in general is that we can't use our meal plan for the Java Joint, and it would be nice to have more than two choices, but the situation as it stands doesn't warrant many complaints.

Did You Know?
  • Every year, Commons creates an apple smorgasbord with freshly-picked apples, gourmet apple desserts, and apply main dishes to choose from.
  • Every once in a while, you'll see a long line on the left side of Commons. This is the Mongolian Barbecue, where students can pick out vegetables, meats, and sauces, and the chefs of Commons will stir-fry it for you right there-it's amazing.
  • Sometimes, the Food Dude comes around to all the tables and hands out special treats to everyone.
