Majors: Internships with Belmont are nothing short of impressive. While we are not allowed to receive pay, the experience and connections gained are well worth the time and effort. As a psychology major (as with most other majors), I was able to get three hours of course credit for my internship. I interned at a recognized school for children with learning disabilities. My friends in the Music Business and Entertainment Industry Studies programs have interned with VH1, Saturday Night Live, and the Ryman Auditorium. Nashville and Belmont have a great array of internship opportunities.

Campus Food: The cafeteria at Belmont provides an array of options for students, including several dairy-free products and vegetarian options. The variety within the "caf" is average for a university of this size; however, I eventually got tired of eating there everyday. I would suggest to choose the meal plan that allows you the most declining points. These can be used at the Curb Cafe, library cafe, and other locations on campus with better meal options.

Majors: The psychology department at Belmont is wonderful. Unlike many undergraduate psychology programs, the Belmont program has a heavy emphasis on research-- meaning a great preparation for graduate programs. The equipment and facilities is useful for conducting experiments; the department will also order any equipment needed for undergraduate student research. The department is fairly small yet personable.

Athletics: Belmont is known for its great basketball team. Students attend home games, but seldom travel to support the team. It is more popular to attend friends' concerts at local venues than for the student body to attend a sport's game.

Off-Campus Dining: There are SO many choices local and chain its such a tourist town that the choices are endless

3 College Junior

Transportation: There is a lot of traffic but it is a big city so its expected! transportation is nice and there is a parking garage on campus

4 College Junior

Local Area: Beautiful City, everyone is so polite and there is a never ending list of things to do and see. Many local spots in the middle of music city!

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: These guys don't play around with drugs at all. Yeah of course they'll be around because it's college, but they won't be anywhere on campus.

2 College Sophomore

Transportation: You definitely need a car, or there is no other way to get around. Nashville is huge, and you cannot rely on bicycle or buses.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Belmont has a very beautiful campus and the facilities are awesome.

1 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Very unhealthy. If you keep track of your weight you have to be extremely careful, or just avoid eating on campus.

Greek Life: You won't find the typical greek life scene at Belmont. The organizations are smaller and they do not have chapter houses. There are frat parties to go to, but they are just smaller house parties. Most of the greek life members are hard-working students who are dedicated to philanthropy and the betterment of the campus as a whole. Just as with every school, a small population of the campus has a distaste for greek life as a whole. Oftentimes, however, it is not obvious who is greek and who is not.

Academics: Like any school, it just depends on the classes and professors you take! You get out of it what you put in to it. If you are in a class that you don't really care for, then it is super easy to phone it in and get a decent grade. On the other hand, it is a small community, and it is not difficult to develop a solid relationship with the professors in your department.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Im a Music Business major at the Curb College, and the program is absolutely fantastic. The school frequently hosts seminars that bring in professionals from varying aspects of the field, and the classes are very informative with applicable information.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: As a christian university, the underage nightlife is pretty much nonexistant, but there is always something to do.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: We get all four seasons for the most part. Sometimes the rain gets super duper heavy though, but when its nice everyone hangs out on the quad.

Local Area: Love the music scene, Nashville has lots to do and get involved in around. Always a concert or something to go see.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Plenty of parking spaces! Plus new garages being built.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: Its average cafeteria food but there are 3 other dining options in the curb cafe with live music!

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Most of the guys and girls are into music so there are a lot of creative people walking the halls of Belmont University.

3 College Junior

Transportation: We have to take the public bus if we need transportation, however it is for free!

4 College Junior

Academics: I have never experienced an English Program where it was so easy to contact professors, department chairs, etc. The faculty has been so enthusiastic with career planning, evening meeting to learn about me as a student. I worried to program wouldn't be given as much attention as music, as it is a dominantly musical school, but my worries were for naught.

4 College Junior

Weather: You get some snow, and summers can be very hot. Even still, people are out and enjoying themselves. I never felt like I was inconvenienced socially or academically.

Off-Campus Housing: Housing at this schools is about what you would expect anywhere else. At times, it is hard to find, like the beginning of semester when it is peak searching time. However, the buildings are close and very convenient, always worth it.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Most Belmont students will tell you that if they had to do it over again, they’d choose Belmont every time. So, despite parking issues, rising tuition, and strict behavioral policies, students are truly glad to be here, and it shows. University president Dr. Robert Fisher (around here, he’s affectionately called “Bob the Builder”—you’ll figure it out when you see the construction trucks on campus) likes to say Belmont is a “small town in a big city.” Because it’s such a tiny school on an enclosed campus, the community atmosphere at Belmont is incredibly strong. Professors often give out their personal cell phone numbers to students who need extra help, and they genuinely want their students to succeed—not just in their classes, but in life. Most students find one or two professors in their major who become almost like surrogate parents. They’ll counsel you through the stress of finals and help you find fantastic internships. Because many professors are former professionals in whatever field they teach, they have experience and contacts that are immeasurably valuable to students —in this town, the people you know have the potential to open doors for you.

Nashville itself is probably one of the biggest selling points for the University. It’s an incredible town full of opportunities for young professionals in every major. Nursing students may do clinicals at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, one of the top hospitals in the world. Students who like to write might find a public relations internship at one of the music labels in town. And of course, if you want to pursue a career in the music business, there’s no better place to be. So is a Belmont education expensive? Yes. Make no mistake about it. But if you feel it’s the right place for you, you’ll leave knowing every penny was worth it.
