4 College Senior

Local Area: There is a lot of country music and diversity.

1 College Junior

Majors: Getting into Belmont in general is incredibly easy. The acceptance rate is 82%. Getting into the Music Business program is also very easy. People act like it is really difficult but it really isn't at all.

Technology: No opinion on this. I don't see why you wouldn't bring your own computer.

Off-Campus Dining: Anything is better than Belmont's food.

Academics: Everyone is a music major so don't think you're unique if that's what you're going to Belmont for. You'll be a very very very very very small fish in a very very very very very large pond.

Parking: It's fine. Definitely not the worst part about this school.

Campus Quality: The transfer out rate is somewhere between 30-40% which is completely obscene and really all you need to know when considering to go to this school.

Campus Quality: It was the worst year ever.

Campus Housing: So strict. Dirty, small, cramped. The RAs can come in your room at anytime and look through your things in search of drugs and alcohol. They call it a "safety check" and they say they're looking for fire code violations but everyone knows what they're really looking for.

Scholarships: I have no idea. I didn't apply for financial aid but I felt like most people at Belmont received some sort of money from the school which is good.

Campus Food: I stopped eating on campus after the first week of school because it was simply unbearable.

Overall Experience: If I could do it all over there is no chance I would go to Belmont. You literally could not pay me to go back there.

Drug Safety: There is very little drinking and drug use at Belmont. So if that's what you're into then knock yourself out.

Greek Life: Greek Life at Belmont, if you even want to call it that, is a joke compared to most other schools in the nation. They take themselves pretty seriously but they would be the laughing stock at any other school.

Weather: Rainy and cold all the time. Not as cold as the northeast or the midwest obviously but the weather comes up from the Gulf of Mexico and just dumps gallons of rain on Nashville. The temperature hovers around 30-40 degrees from about mid-November until April.

Off-Campus Housing: You can't live off campus until you're 21 if you haven't already transferred by then.

Health & Safety: This really isn't an issue at Belmont.

Party Scene: The "nightlife" a Belmont could not possibly be any worse.

Majors: Everyone there is a music major. I can't think of any reason why you would go to Belmont for anything other than music.

Local Area: Belmont made me hate Nashville.

Diversity: Almost everyone at Belmont is white. Lots of economic diversity. No religious diversity whatsoever.

Athletics: The sports at Belmont are laughable. Basketball is the only popular sport and they aren't even that good at it compared to the rest of the NCAA. They just play the worst teams ever so they look a lot better than they actually are.

Transportation: I would have died if I had not had a car while I was at Belmont because if I hadn't had a car then I wouldn't have been able to leave campus which means that I would've been stuck there all the time.

Most Belmont students will tell you that if they had to do it over again, they’d choose Belmont every time. So, despite parking issues, rising tuition, and strict behavioral policies, students are truly glad to be here, and it shows. University president Dr. Robert Fisher (around here, he’s affectionately called “Bob the Builder”—you’ll figure it out when you see the construction trucks on campus) likes to say Belmont is a “small town in a big city.” Because it’s such a tiny school on an enclosed campus, the community atmosphere at Belmont is incredibly strong. Professors often give out their personal cell phone numbers to students who need extra help, and they genuinely want their students to succeed—not just in their classes, but in life. Most students find one or two professors in their major who become almost like surrogate parents. They’ll counsel you through the stress of finals and help you find fantastic internships. Because many professors are former professionals in whatever field they teach, they have experience and contacts that are immeasurably valuable to students —in this town, the people you know have the potential to open doors for you.

Nashville itself is probably one of the biggest selling points for the University. It’s an incredible town full of opportunities for young professionals in every major. Nursing students may do clinicals at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, one of the top hospitals in the world. Students who like to write might find a public relations internship at one of the music labels in town. And of course, if you want to pursue a career in the music business, there’s no better place to be. So is a Belmont education expensive? Yes. Make no mistake about it. But if you feel it’s the right place for you, you’ll leave knowing every penny was worth it.
