5 College Freshman

Scholarships: Not only I am international so most schools don't support me but also I am from a very poor family. But bates provides me with all the money I need. Of course you have to be competitive and willing to work hard to meet the academic requirements, which are the only requirements to be able to get support from bates once you are accepted.

Scholarships: I originally got a package of $30,000 (which would have brought the cost down to $30,000). However, my dad went and talked to the financial aid office and told them our situation (he had been unemployed almost my whole childhood so we had very little savings) and they brought the cost down to $22,000/year- very affordable for our family. Wouldn't be able to attend an out of state school without the generosity of Bates financial aid! I also have a work-study package.

Scholarships: Talking to other students, Bates has provided nearly all the aid they requested.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I didn't apply for financial aid, but my impression is that if you need it you get at least some, but perhaps not all, of what you need. Also, Bates is need-blind for admissions.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Last year (my freshman year), the process went smoothly and I received a scholarship because of my financial need. This year, as I become a sophomore, however, I am having issues. I somehow lost my scholarship, even though my family cannot afford the full price and we haven't been able to reach the Financial Aid Office. If I don't get this fixed soon, I may have to leave.
