5 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Dining: A variety of restaurants, gas stations that cook and sell food.

3 Recent Alumnus

Local Area: lack of ethnic culture and diversity; no campus life

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of places to eat. you will never go hungry.

5 College Sophomore

Technology: they are great. There is always a computer for you to use.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I received a great amount of financial aid, I had no problems with receiving my aid.

4 College Junior

Diversity: There are people with all different backgrounds at Athens State University. However, it is not something the students focus on. We all act as family almost, and everyone gets along. I have never ran across anyone that was rude or unwilling to help others out. No one seems to point people out through race and religion. Instead, we all focus on relationships and school.

4 College Junior

Weather: It rarely snows here, so classes are never cancelled due to weather storms. When it is raining, classes of course to not get cancelled, but parking is so good that the students do not have to walk far in the rain to get to classes.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I gave the housing an A minus because there is housing available, but there is not as much nice housing as Madison or Huntsville. However, some students may not mind driving from Madison to Athens State University. There are houses to rent and apartments near Athens that are great quality, and there are different price ranged apartments.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I'm in the education program, and I enjoy it. All of the teachers I have had have been very helpful and friendly. The education classes seem to be a little more tailored toward elementary education majors, whereas I am a secondary education major. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about the program.

Local Area: It's a nice college town. It's very near Madison and Huntsville, so there are lots of attractions, shopping, and food there. Athens itself has a decent amount of food and shopping, but not huge.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I live in a two-bedroom townhouse only about 4 minutes from the school. It is in a really nice neighborhood and the rent is extremely reasonable.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather is usually very fine. Classes have never been cancelled since I have been attending, and the weather has not been bad enough to warrant it.

3 College Junior

Local Area: Athens is a small town but they do have a lot to offer. Right around the corner from Athens State is downtown Athens where they have car shows once a month, plenty of small stores to shop in and their is a good variety of places to eat within Athens. Athens tends to be a vibrant community during the day and quiet at night. Though they do have some problems they don't occur that often.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: The off-campus housing near Athens State is available but most are to expensive for a college student and they must settle for a place that is more run down and landlords don't exactly care about your complaints. The apartments near Athens State are conveniently located to the campus and to other needs within town. The main problem is having to find an apartment that is affordable and on short notice. Most places are normally full and want to charge you a ridiculous price to live their.

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: You find a variety of guys and girls on campus. The girls and guys are your typical southerners.

2 College Junior

Athletics: Athletics are not a big deal. Athens is mainly a transfer school.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are a ton a fast food chains and also chains such as logan's

4 College Junior

Diversity: Most people that attend ASU are white, however diversity is very accepted.

4 College Sophomore

Parking: A parking permit only costs $10. I have never seen anyone get a ticket or a fine on campus. There is always parking available, but most of the parking near the buildings are for teachers and staff. You never have to walk far, though.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Most off-campus dining includes chain restaurants and fast-food. There are some good places, though, like Village Pizza.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The professors are friendly and knowledgeable, the curriculum is balanced between content and workload, the registration process is simple thanks to SAM, and the library has a great new study area that just opened up.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I'm in the education program, and it's really great. There are a lot of great teachers and opportunities for field experiences and internship. The classes pile a lot on you, but it is genuinely useful things that will come in handy when I become a teacher.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I should have been more on top of scholarships when I was transferring because most of them are for incoming students only. However, there are plenty of scholarships available to current students. The people in the financial aid department are very friendly and helpful.

3 College Senior

Campus Food: There is a cafeteria and a coffee shop in the student center. Food is descent and prices are reasonable.

5 College Senior

Diversity: I've never encountered any issues based on my beliefs and lifestyle. Professors respect students and work to meet any needs. The university's non-discrimination clause includes sexual orientation.
