4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I have not been placed in any scary situations since I've been at Athens State University. I've felt very safe since being here.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I had no trouble applying for Athens State. My tour guide even took the time to approve my admission when she found out I had all the requirements necessary to be a transfer student at Athens.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Although I've seen announcements about Greek life, I do not see Greek life as being a big part of this school.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The campus is small but has a plethora of history. The buildings are historic and comfy on the inside. Athens state also has one of the oldest trees in Alabama. The class sizes are small and the teachers are approachable. Everyone I've met so far has been friendly and helpful. I feel like I have a good amount of support to help me finish my Bachelor's degree.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Honestly, I don't know anything about the athletics department. I haven't taken time to visit it.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: The school is small and everybody there is welling to help one another when they can. The Professor are there for you when you needed that extra push to move forward in life. I have much respect for the this university. I would love to finish out my degree there at all means.

Majors: There are several different selections for majors and minors.

3 College Freshman

Local Area: Good location for job prospects. The city atmosphere is appealing to those looking towards future planning in relation to family and career. There are a variety of cultural events on and off campus. Students tend to be very pleased.

5 College Freshman

Majors: Accounting major is very detailed oriented and challenging. It is helpful for those pursing a career in the field and furthering their advancement in the field.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: I have not had to apply for financial aid. The process for reviewing and applying for scholarships has been great.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: I am satisfied with off campus dining options.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I enjoy it so far. Not all of my professors are helpful.

3 College Senior

Academics: The workload really depends on how much you are willing to take on. Some students only take two classes while others always take six. The school is not very tough. Most students work full-time and professors are willing to work with you to help with problems.

5 College Senior

Health & Safety: I feel incredibly safe on campus. There is a security guard that regularly does rounds of the campus. Also the school is situated across the street from the city's police department. I have never seen or heard of anyone being assaulted on campus. I have never seen or heard of anyone's property being stolen or tampered with.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: There are no dorms or school housing. If you go to school here, you have to find your own housing. There are many affordable and safe apartments nearby. Most students live at home.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many family owned restaurants that have been here for many years. One such place is Dub's burgers. If you want a large, greasy burger this is the place for you. There are also several famous BBQ places such as Lawlers, Southern Hickory, and 306 BBQ. Also if you are feeling in the fish mood, there is of course the Catfish Cabin.

3 College Senior

Guys & Girls: The guys and girls at Athens is very diverse. There are probably a pretty equal guy to girl ratio. But the ages range quite a bit. Because of this there is not a "typical" look or attitude at the campus. Things are pretty casual here. Most people get along well and it is fairly easy to make friends.

3 College Senior

Local Area: There is a thriving historic downtown area. There are a lot of boutique type stores and a lot of family owned restaurants. There are many activities that the town puts on such as Toga on the Square and Fiddlers Convention. It is a very safe town with an extremely low crime rate. The locals are very involved with Athens State and many locals are alumni themselves.

4 College Senior

Majors: You are usually matched to an internship that closely follows your major. In the internship you are given a specific project to work on. I got paid quite well in mine for my level of experience. The time commitment was not bad. Continuously I was told that school came first and they would plan my work schedule around my class schedule. Athens has a career center on campus that is very good. They have a list of internships and co-ops that you can apply from that correlates with your major.

4 College Senior

Majors: The process was fairly easy. When I transferred I told them what I wanted my major to be and they reviewed my transcripts and approved my major choice. I didn't have any problems getting in. The most unusual thing about Athens is that you have to be a transfer student, they are not a four year college. You have to have at least 64 credits to even be accepted.
