Academic Experience: I have received some really good professors, and my studies are really great I'm learning so much.

Academic Experience: The instructors have been fine, with the exception of the Government instructor. Her expectations for the freshman class were unreasonable.

My other instructors have been great.

3 College Freshman

Academic Experience: Most of the classes are just fine, but some of them just don't seem pertinent to my degree. The government class that I took was very confusing and the instructor was unhelpful. Her expectations for the freshman class were very high, and the assignments were unreasonable. She was very difficult to understand in her explanations of the assignment requirements. I reached out several times to her, and the turn time for a response was unacceptable.

I had several email dialogues with fellow students in the class who felt the same way. She failed some of us, even though I met every expectation of the class. My answers were not good enough to her standards, but fell completely inline with the expectations of the assignments to my understanding.

Academic Experience: Ashford was 1 out of only a few schools that offer classes toward the degree that I wish to obtain on line. The curriculum offered touches my field of study in a very general sense. I will need to further my specialized education and obtain naturopathic licensing at a different institution in a different state unless by that time, the state I reside offers licensing. Unfortunately, there are no internships available too. The curriculum I am attending at Ashford will however, get me prepared for the specialized institution that I wish to apply to and hopefully attend, graduate and obtain my naturopathic licensing.

In terms of Ashford's online program, grading is based on two discussion forums, at least two responses to other classmates' posts, quizzes, and an 8- to 10-page research paper due at the end of the five-week course. A typical course begins on Tuesday and ends on Monday for the week. A typical class is five weeks long, with the first day of class consisting of an introductory post to describe yourself and educational goals to your instructor and classmates, with at least three responses to your classmates' posts. On the third day (Thursday), the two discussion posts are due; day six (Sunday) is the assessment quiz, and day seven (Monday) consists of your responses to your classmates posts and any research prep (usually due the second or third week) or papers (at the end of the five weeks).

The classroom environment is a little different because of it being an online program. The general class size is about eighteen students, with very lively online discussions and reviews brought up between the students and instructor. Even though students don't necessarily talk to the teachers in person, the instructor is generally very accessible, providing knowledge, communication with students, and genuine interest in the subject he or she is teaching. When it comes to real world practicability, taking classes online is especially helpful to those with full-time jobs, families, or other commitments. An online Ashford education is valuable, with its ability to accommodate the real world, as well as its deftness in helping students attain skills that they can apply to life outside of the online classroom.

Did You Know?
Even though Ashford students don't necessarily interact with their instructors and peers face-to-face, as in a traditional college setting, most Ashford students find the instructors and staff to be very helpful when it comes to answering student questions-as if they are actually in the same room together rather than a chatroom.
