Overall Experience: The coursework is rigorous yet convenient. Some classes require many hours of work. There are no learning teams, you are responsible for your own grades. The only downfall is the financial aid department. They lack in communication skills.

Online Courses: Online courses are the best option for me at this point in my life. I have to work 32 hours a week to meet my financial needs, so the flexibility of online courses are essential. I am also very introverted, so I do not miss the peer-to-peer interaction that I had in normal university classes. I like being able to work at my own pace with no distractions. I also do not feel as though I am missing out on professor instruction. My professor's are always available when I need them, and I honestly feel like I have a better relationship with them than I ever did with my professors at regular university. So, for this introvert, the differences between online and traditional education are all pros.

Academic Flexibility: There were some issues when transferring credits, but my advisors were brilliant at helping me fill out the proper paperwork to get my credits. There was also one mistake that I caught, but the department apologized for the mistake and handled it in a very professional manner. It is important to remember that we are all human and that mistakes happen. Compared to other institutions, Ashford really is the best at accepting transfer credits.

Overall Experience: All of my professor's have extensive experience in various fields of linguistics. They bring their personal knowledge into the online classroom quite frequently. As for class sizes, most of my classes have only contained 10-15 students, so I get very personalized attention.

5 College Junior

Academic Experience: Learning Applied Linguistics at Ashford is brilliant. You get a very well rounded learning experience. You are required to take classes in all major branches of linguistics, second language teaching, and even areas related to speech pathology. It is a great foundation for graduate study in any area of linguistics.

Overall Experience: I absolutely adore Ashford University! I started at a traditional university, but I soon realized that it just wasn't for me. I thought that making the switch to online education would be difficult, but my advisors made the process so smooth. Also, all of the instructors I have had thus far have been incredible. One instructor even said, "You may not be able to see it, but my door is open!". That warmed my heart. I get more help and attention from my instructors at Ashford than I ever did at my old university. I could write pages and pages about why I love Ashford, but I will leave it at this.

Ashford University provides a great learning experience in a very unique environment. If you ask online Ashford students if they're happy with their choice to attend school there, most would probably say that they would do it all over again if they could, mainly because of its flexibility and convenience with schedules. The instructors are helpful and respond to questions in a timely manner, usually within one to two days. The instructors are helpful and encourage students to constantly look for better answers. Online classes are very convenient to students with complicated schedules; students can complete assignments at their own leisure, yet within the time constraints of deadlines. Most students find no problem completing their assignments.

A drawback of being an online student is that you don't have the opportunity to really check out the organizations or physical resources Ashford offers. However, the University does have an online library that students can go into from the Student Portal. The library is easy to use, and students can usually find most of the sources they need when writing a research paper. Even though it isn't your typical college interaction, the instructors and classmates are friendly and very helpful when you have questions. Students are able to help each other in unique ways. In one case, a student didn't have her book for class yet, and another student was able to scan a copy of the assignment and e-mail an attachment to her. Classmates are also helpful in post discussions and give each other timely advice and wisdom.
