4 College Senior

Transportation: I am an online student so transportation issues are of no issue to me.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Taxis are expensive. Public transportation is full of creeps. The Orbit bus is a cute luxury, but never ride it alone.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Transportation did not affect my life too much while living at ASU.

2 College Sophomore

Transportation: You really need to use a car to get around

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: The campus is condensed into walking distance for every class on the main campus. There is a rail that runs through campus, and for those living off-campus, it's a much cheaper easier way to park your car and get onto campus. Parking on campus can get expensive, and there aren't many lots.

When it comes to traveling around Arizona, many locals know the struggle that comes with living in a very spread out city. Fortunately, Tempe offers students the convenience of good local transportation and enough entertainment around campus that does not really make you want to venture too far away. Many students will get by having a bicycle if they do not live too far away from campus and can travel pretty conveniently around the ASU area. Students often use the Tempe campus shuttle (FLASH) that transports students around the main campus, which frees up some walking time from the parking lots to class. The ASU inter-campus shuttle allows students to travel between all four campuses.

The Orbit, a free bus that allows students to travel around Tempe, is definitely a nice commodity for those who do not own a car. If you are looking to head downtown from Tempe, the light rail offers that option and becomes really handy when other transportation is not available late at night. These different transportation options certainly give students the freedom to roam around outside of campus grounds without having to own a vehicle. That being said, it is nice to have a car on campus because urban sprawl is in full effect in the surrounding areas. Getting a cab out here to take you places is definitely the last thing you want to do, and hitching a ride with your friends may not always be the most reliable mode of transportation.
