3 College Freshman

Athletics: I'm not very into athletics. The most I do for one year is a semester of marching band. If the instruments count as equipment, then I have to say that the equipment could use some fixing up. Lots of fan support for football and basketball, though! But that's pretty much the only fan support we get.

Scholarships: You better do your very best to maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA or else you're going to lose whatever scholarship you have. Go to the tutoring center (they're free! no excuses!), ask the professor for help, start a study group. Do everything in your power, even if you didn't have to do it in high school.

Off-Campus Dining: I'm a broke college student, so I don't get to eat out very often. When I do, though, things seem pretty reasonable.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: There's all kinds of different people at ASU! The campus is very diverse and everyone can find a place where they fit in.

Drug Safety: I'm not a partier. Believe it or not, I haven't been to a single ASU party. Because of that, I don't have a lot of first-hand experience with drinking, but I've heard a lot from others. Some of my older friends partake in it, as well as some who are underage. I've heard stories about anything from pregnancy scares, to blackouts, to people being raped while intoxicated. There was also a girl who recently passed away after she fell from the 10th floor balcony of 922 Place, and it is believed that alcohol was involved. It is a HUGE problem on campus, and I'm not sure how it's being handled, but whatever ASU is doing is not working.

Technology: Printing can sometimes take a little while depending on how busy they are, which is inconvenient if you're trying to print something right before a class, but the prices are reasonable.

Weather: It gets pretty hot, but I've lived in Arizona since I was young so I'm pretty used to it by now. Just gotta drink a lot of water and stay in the shade as much as possible!

Off-Campus Housing: if you can find an opening, take it.

Arizona State is like no other university in the country. With a large, vibrant, and exciting student body that truly makes the campus unique, there is no arguing that ASU is by any means a boring place to be for the next four years of your life. As soon as you step onto ASU's campus, you will feel the immense amount of positive and exciting energy that gives you sense of belonging. Even though there are so many students around campus, you will be sure to find a niche to call your own. College is the time to find yourself and truly learn who you are as you prepare for the real world. ASU provides the perfect environment to challenge you to make "adult" decisions, and you won't always, but by the end of it all, you will mature into a dedicated individual!

Even though students will struggle with all-nighters, sports practice, parking tickets, and trying to recover from a great night, many of them couldn't ask for anything else. There will be times that you are drowning in homework and studying, but by the end of it all, you will look back and laugh. Your peers help you get through the tough times and make those social outings even more fun. ASU knows how to party hard, but when it comes to crunch time, we pull it off well. The kids here know how to have a great time, the nightlife and social settings are extremely fun, the academics are quite challenging—especially when you apply yourself and take it seriously—but most importantly, students will leave prepared for post-graduation and taking on the world. ASU is a fantastic place to meet new people and a great way to experience life in the great southwest. But don't take my word for it—come on out and experience it for yourself!
