Greek Life: There not really part of the school life. You know there's parties but if your not a party person you don't pay attention to the greek life.

Local Area: Lots to Do, but Really Spread Out – Tempe is a place of many people and surrounded by a variety of things to do. From hiking, to shopping, to a Suns game the options are endless. However, most of these activities require a car, which then limits activities to on campus, or a short bike ride away.

Academics: Small Class Sizes – Since I am in a design major, most of my classes have been around 18-20 kids, which has its advantages. The professors care more about your well-being and pay close attention to your work giving constructive feedback. For two larger sized classes I had, the teachers were always available and accessible through email or during office hours.

Guys & Girls: Mixed Like a Blender – Arizona State is as it says, one of the most diverse college campuses in the United States. You rarely, if ever, run into the same people day to day. Collectively the guys are either the stereotype nerd and the others are gym guys-they love building their muscles. The girls meanwhile are book nerds on one hand, or the party scene type.

Transportation: Shuttles Are Almost the Only Option – Unless you have a car, university shuttles between the campuses are almost the only option. Public transportation in the phoenix area is very poor due to the fact that the city layout is so spread out. A car is a very good investment if you are at any of the campuses other than the main one in Tempe.

Majors: Being that I am only in my freshman year I am still getting a feel for the University and everything it has to offer but I love ASU. I've met so many great people here and the school has so many different programs, that differ from FREE tutoring to a writing center and a rec center. For exploratory majors they really expose you to everything ASU has to offer and what different career paths to choose.

Athletics: Football is the only major sport. The campus always sets up pre-game BBQ's for the the students that are pretty fun. Games are always so fun. You always meet new people considering that half of the student section is drunk and looking to have fun. The school also has a pretty nice, and pretty large, recreation center that has almost everything that you would expect to find at a gym and some.

Technology: The wifi at the school is great inside the classrooms but in some areas of the dorm it's impossible to get wifi and people will often have to go out in the hallway or in the lounge to pick up signal. I only get signal in half of my room. But there are labs everywhere. The only thing is they monitor internet usage so absolutely NO illegal downloading.

Majors: Huge School – I went to a small undergraduate art school but you could take a class in any art/design or performance field as an elective- and it counted. At ASU you do not get it counted if it is not part of your degree but you do have access to all the presentations/performances and public lectures

Campus Housing: Good Maintenance – Good maintenance of buildings, Aware of when to upgrade and keep current.

Technology: First Come First Serve in a Large School – The computer labs at Herberger Design School at ASU are on a first come first serve basis. The very beginning of Spring 2012 semester is the first time I saw a notice posted that said log-in will be terminated if gone more than 15 minutes. Undergrads are notorious for locking the computer access and going away or even just staking out the computer next to them for when their friend arrives. For the past semesters the computer rooms become like trashed locker rooms- smelly with food and spilled food on the keyboards. The scanners at presentation time become less reliable. Our studio room has a scanner that has never been fully serviced it only works sometimes. We draw a lot and like to combine our hand drawing with digital. During finals the system can become extremely slow. Logging onto to the computer initially is usually a 10 minute wait- so it feels.

Off-Campus Housing: So expensive! It is really hard to find an apt. or a house that is cheap and that is in a nice area. Tempe is not the nicer area in Arizona and if you want to live somewhere cheap and nice you have to live far away from campus.

Campus Housing: Dorm Life – I was always sick in the dorms and it was always dirty inside the buildings. The RAs never did anything about noises during quite hours when people were studying for finals. Overall, the dorm quality was bad. The food wasn't better either, I always got sick for campus food. The only good thing about living in the dorms is that you are close to your classes.

Parking: Complete's Your Daily Excerisce Requirements – You have to spend a good 15 minutes if you plan on walking from Lot59 to your classes and when it's hot, it makes it just all that much better...enough said

Greek Life: Greek life is pretty lame, I mean you don't really see a lot of stuff goin down so it's kind of not a huge social scene. I mean yeah Greek's got their thing but you don't really see much goin on with them, sort of exclusive.

Technology: Not Too Shabby – As a student athlete, the comps are awesome and I get free printing which is great too! But other than that I mean you can find a computer generally anywhere and the server is pretty consistent, the internet is always up and running.

Health & Safety: Pretty Safe – Pretty safe, lots of diversity, so lock your doors at night just to be safe. Mainly scared of petty theft not murders or anything.

Technology: Network Reliability and Speed – If there server is overloaded there are some issues. Other than these times, the internet is relatively reliable.

Academics: I love the music program at ASU. The people are very nice and most of the professors are great. (You just get those few theory teachers that can be a bit difficult.) Tip: Make an older friend FAST. They will show you the ins and outs of the school. Some things are not very clear and you will need help like I did! :)

Greek Life: Greeks Were Not All Friendly – When you join a greek club, you are sure to have nasty girl or guy fights and issues. Other than that they o not really dominate the school.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Too Much Partying – You don't need to go to every party to be considered "cool". Most of the people who go out feel they need to impress other's. Going out to party or drink once in a while is okay, but not every time.

Overall Experience: The School Is Alright but Not Worth the Massive Expenses – Arizona State is a really good place to be as far as atmosphere wise but the expenses pile up quickly especially if you are out of state. The dorms are small and the selection for roommates is do poorly. Academically, it is average but there is studying to be done.

Weather: Even in the winter the weather is perfect for walking to class. There is never any snow so slippery roads or sidewalks are never an issue. There are usually more people out when it is warmer and the atmosphere seems to lighten as well.

Campus Quality: Campus Life & Specific Schools – We are also near the top of the lists for party schools. It can both a gift and curse but either way it sets us apart from others.
For those more serious students our Barrett Honors College has a great honors program that definitely sets us apart, at least from the other Arizona schools. Also the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication is quickly moving up as one of the best journalism schools. The program offers so many opportunities to students and is the main reason I chose this school.

Off-Campus Housing: Apartments Are Expensive but Necessary – The apartments around campus are very expensive to say the least, but I find the neighborhood to be decent. The variety is good, there are several places to choose from-all being super expensive of course.

Arizona State is like no other university in the country. With a large, vibrant, and exciting student body that truly makes the campus unique, there is no arguing that ASU is by any means a boring place to be for the next four years of your life. As soon as you step onto ASU's campus, you will feel the immense amount of positive and exciting energy that gives you sense of belonging. Even though there are so many students around campus, you will be sure to find a niche to call your own. College is the time to find yourself and truly learn who you are as you prepare for the real world. ASU provides the perfect environment to challenge you to make "adult" decisions, and you won't always, but by the end of it all, you will mature into a dedicated individual!

Even though students will struggle with all-nighters, sports practice, parking tickets, and trying to recover from a great night, many of them couldn't ask for anything else. There will be times that you are drowning in homework and studying, but by the end of it all, you will look back and laugh. Your peers help you get through the tough times and make those social outings even more fun. ASU knows how to party hard, but when it comes to crunch time, we pull it off well. The kids here know how to have a great time, the nightlife and social settings are extremely fun, the academics are quite challenging—especially when you apply yourself and take it seriously—but most importantly, students will leave prepared for post-graduation and taking on the world. ASU is a fantastic place to meet new people and a great way to experience life in the great southwest. But don't take my word for it—come on out and experience it for yourself!
