College Freshman

Greek Life: We have no great life and honestly I am totally okay with that.

Campus Housing: The dorms are small, but that is common at most colleges. I love that most of my friends live in my building and that I get to see them alot. However, I would love to live in one of the apartments next year.

Parking: I love having my car on campus and it is about 5-7 minute walk from my dorm to my car. The only downside is that I have to make multiple trips to my car with my stuff to bring home or wait for a spot to be open by my dorm. The permit to have a spot on campus is really cheap compared to the cost other students have to pay at other universities, or so have I been told.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I have not seen any drug activity on campus or heard of any. Drinking is far more common than drugs. People are pressuring other to drinking, most people respects one's choice to drink or not.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There isn't much drug use on campus - drinking and smoking are much more common.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: There is plenty of night-life downtown Grand Rapids, but not much on campus (especially in the dorms).

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: The houses that are offered off campus are large enough to room 2-4 friends, which is the average number and simply perfect. The rent tends to vary but usually is just fine and negotiable. The condition the housing comes is the standard expectation and very nice way to gain "freedom".

3 College Sophomore

Weather: The distance from room to classes isn't too far considering public colleges have a much greater distance. It is quite cold and it snows quite a bit which makes it difficult sometimes, which is why an underground tunnel would help from every on campus living center.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I lived in the dorms my freshman year (like most freshman have to) and I loved the people, but the rooms are quite small and not very "homey". This year I was able to live in an apartment on campus, which is much better than the dorms, but there were still various things that were wrong and that should have been taken care of. It is a major upgrade though from dorm room to an apartment with kitchen appliances.

Technology: A personal computer isn't really necessary -- I have one and prefer to have one, but there are so many options on campus that it just isn't a necessity. There are 20+ computers in the library, and I've yet to see them all packed for longer than an hour. There are also small labs on the first floor of the dorms (at least in Regina), on the third floor of the Academic Building, and four to six on each floor in the Academic Building.
There is WIFI in the dorms and it is generally reliable, though there are hiccups for a few minutes throughout the day. However, reconnecting usually fixes the problem...I don't know why that works though. The speed is fairly good; better than at my house.
Printing isn't bad. It is $.10 a page, but it is automatically printed doublesided unless it is requested otherwise. The school also just started a new program called PaperCut. It gives each student 40 pages ($4.00) free each semester and the system is really easy to figure out.

Technology: I gave Aquinas an A because we have a lot of opportunities involving technology and computers and we have various labs spread across campus. The speed of the internet is fast which makes homework and checking emails fast and easy.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: places to eat are the moose lodge, corner cafe, and wege.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I'm a Art Major. I need to complete my general education with at least C- for each class. All other 45 art major credits need to have a C to count for the art major.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Love the professors I have encountered so far at Aquinas College! I had mostly general education professors as well as business and art professors. Curriculum goes by fast and registration process is very easy. The workload is decided based on what you can handle. Library 3rd floor study

5 College Sophomore

Academics: I'm at Aquinas College! I am majoring in art. I love the experienced professors at Aquinas. They really love art and it gets me pumped up to work on my artistic creativity. Art majors need 45 credits plus general education credits. You can choose your workload.

Transportation: Public transportation around Aquinas College is decent, there are multiple bus stops along the outer regions of campus that can take you all over Grand Rapids.

5 College Sophomore

Local Area: Grand Rapids! Grand Rapids is a quaint city. It's pretty safe area to live in. There are stores everywhere within walking distance. If you don't want to walk, you can take the bus or find a friend who has a car to go with you. In the Fall, there is Art Price, which means there is art all over the city you can vote for for the $100,000 winner. It is a lot of fun! There are cute little boutiques all around. President Gerald Ford lived here, so there is a really cool museum in his honor. In the winter, there is ice skating. Basically, whatever you want to do, Grand Rapids has it!

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Biology Major – Sometimes it can seem a little overwhelming, but the professors are more than happy to help you. Plus, there is many different study options in case you fall behind or need a little extra help. There is tutoring, study groups, and office hours. The work load can be a little intense but if you stay on top of everything it isn't bad. Also, I am a Spanish minor. Homework isn't overwhelming in Spanish as long as you stay on top of it.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Wege Shuffle – The food isn't wonderful, but it's not horrible either. Don't come to school expecting to have meals like the ones your mother makes. Beware of the Wege Shuffle. Try to stay away from really greasy foods. If you do get the Wege Shuffle, it's okay because we have all encountered it at least one point in time.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Pretty Accepting – Aquinas is a Catholic institute,so there is a religious feel here on campus. However, 40% of the students are not Catholic, so there is some diversity. Either way, everyone is very nice and accepting. You feel at home here. There is a bit of a homosexual group on campus, so if you swing that way there are options.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Artsy Fartsy & Sporty – The students at Aquinas are either artsy or sporty-it's hard to be both and find the right niche. Girls appear to be normal, but as far as guys go it is very slim pickings...lots of gay guys.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Typical College – The housing at Aquinas is not bad. It is pretty typical of a college. However, the housing application process is highly inefficient and this year there were a lot of freshman that were denied housing.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Food Is Okay, but There Are Not Many Options – The food at Aquinas is not awful, but it's not good for people that have to watch their figure! There are only a few options for people with intolerances (gluten and dairy). Hardly anything is organic.

2 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: They Mean Well, but They Are Not as Efficient as They Could Be – Campus safety is great for escorts, or if you feel like there are problems on campus that do not concern your health. However, from personal experience-during a medical emergency they were horribly slow at reporting to the scene of the emergency and they were less than helpful at assisting in the medical crisis.

4 College Senior

Academics: Worth Your Money – All my classes have difficult, making it worth my money. I am getting a great education.
