Parking: The parking at school is a nightmare. As a freshman, it's awful trying to get to your car. It costs a fair amount of money and when they are out, they are out. Other people sell parking passes but they can get pretty expensive. It is also terrible at football games. Appalachian State needs a lot more parking. Tickets are given out constantly.

Local Area: Not a lot of shopping but a very friendly environment. If you like hiking, water falls, mountains, snowboarding, snow in general and snow sports, Appalachian State is a great school for you.

Health & Safety: There are constantly cops everywhere on campus so you feel pretty safe. Sometimes you do hear of rape or robberies but it's not often.

Health & Safety: I wish there was more emergency phones around campus or places to go in case of an emergency.

Scholarships: I wish I was able to recieve more financial aid to help with my schooling.

Party Scene: There are many house parties and the transportation is good. There is a website called collegebeeper which is a program that lets students drive sober and make money driving other students around. The bar scene is not great for under 18 but for over 21 it is pretty good.

Weather: The local weather can be very unpredictable and it snows quite frequently in the winter. Classes are rarely cancelled due to snow and sometimes it is hard to get across campus with the winds so strong so make sure to bundle up. If one is an avid snow sportsperson then they will love Appalachian State.

Majors: I enjoy the Walker College of Business Program because I feel that I am in a program with other students who are very career-oriented and ambitious. The workload is large but reasonable, the curriculum is also rather challenging but attainable, and the building is very well kept and the classes are very nice. There are many internship an job opportunities if one is a hard worker.

Majors: To get into the Walker College of Business, one has to complete 2 accounting classes, a computer literacy test or take a computer class if one can't pass the test, 2 economics classes, 2 English classes, Business Calculus, Law class, and Economic Statistics.

Drug Safety: I have never experienced peer pressure and have rarely seen drugs at this school, however, I'm sure it's out there.

Transportation: Transportation at App is exceptional. We have a bus system called Appalcart that basically goes anywhere (if it's not snowing badly), we have 3 different taxi organizations as well as something called a "beeper" which is a student-run organization (CollegeBeeper.com) that ensures a sober, safe ride every time (only 2 bucks a head). It's funny that we have all this transportation and Boone is such a small town so you don't really need it most of the time, but it's still very useful.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many restaurants off campus that supply student discounts as long as we show our student ID card. The costs range from very cheap to very expensive, so it's flexible. There are a wide variety of off campus dining opportunities with amazing ethnic variation among them. My favorite restaurant to go to is Paulucci's, an Italian restaurant in downtown Boone.

Weather: It snows a lot here, but classes rarely get canceled. It also rains a lot.

Greek Life: Greek Life is only about 10% of our school. If you want to get involved, you can, but you don't have to!

Administration: They are pretty strict on drugs and drinking. there have been cops on my floors plenty of times for drugs and underage drinking

Athletics: Everyone has the opportunity to join a sport. There are club and rec sports along with varsity.

Campus Food: There are quite a few places to eat on campus, along with a mcAlisters and a couple of markets. the food is good and the variety is good.

Majors: There are many majors to choose from at Appalachian State, I didn't have any trouble getting accepted to my major. Once I declared my major I was assigned a different advisor, that from the major's department. I am glad it was an easy transition from undecided to my choice major.

Campus Food: At Appalachian State University, there are only two main dining halls and I am glad both of them are trying to serve local, vegetarian, and vegan food. Despite their efforts, I feel like there are not that many choices of food. It gets really old going in the dining hall so I buy fruits for my room because I feel it is cheaper that way. On campus students require a meal plan, and the only frustrating thing about that is making sure you use all of it in a timely manner. If you finish it early in the semester, you will need to add more money to the account or pay with your personal cards or cash. If you don't finish the money in time, it gets carried over to the spring semester but doesn't roll over to the next one. You can't ask for a refund either, but I am not sure where the extra money goes that were left from spring semesters.

Scholarships: I was one of the chosen that required to send additional information using the government's website to send forms. It was really frustrating because it wouldn't allow me to send it earlier. I tried most of the summer and it finally allowed me to do so early August. It was frustrating and I wish there could have been an easier way since we had hard copies at home. It was also very stressful to know how much financial aid I would get before bills were due and we had to scramble to gather money for what financial aid didn't cover. Overall, I am glad that I received financial aid and hope it's not as frustrating the next time.

Diversity: From the very beginning I have felt that this was going to be a very white school, and most of the people who are here are white. It is not a bad thing that the majority is white, but I come from a very diverse high school and miss seeing more people of different color. The students of Appalachian State are very nice, so that makes me feel better about it.

Campus Housing: Some of the buildings are newer than others, so they are more sought after for amenities and cleanliness. But the older ones are closer to the center of campus and much more accessible. They also are offered at a much lower price than the new dorms.
