Guys & Girls: Bleh. Pretty hard to find someone straight.

2 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: For the most part, the girls are good looking. Most are decently nice and polite, but still tend to be very boring and lack any creativity. 80% of girls on campus look and act the same, have the same professional goals, and like the same very shallow things. There are a few gems but they are hard to find and harder to hold onto.

The boys are ranged from very good looking to very homely. Almost all believe themselves to be total playboys. Incredibly boring and can't hold a conversation about anything but drinking or kanye west.

In general, the student body of AU is incredibly boring and everyone is the same. People with the most predictable personality type come here. Very basic. If you are a creative type you will feel completely suffocated here. Nobody is interested in art, and the few people who do know very little on the matter or still remain very much in the mainstream. Anyone slightly out of the ordinary is not tolerated here. I have heard that the student body is "passionate" but I have not met a single person who reflects this. Similarly, most people pretend to be liberal but in reality care about very few issues, if any. If you are very preppy you will fit in just fine and meet literally countless others just like you. However, I would suggest dating off-campus because there is just not an air of interest on campus. Lots of hook-ups, though, if you are interested.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: There are two girls for every one boy. As a female student this can be very frustrating as your classes have less males or you find most men you meet are gay. (huge gay population for males and females!) But I will say that the city has many schools and chances to meet people. Be aware that this dynamic exists.

View student contributors

The cosmopolitan and ambitious student body tends to place a greater emphasis on individuality, motivation, and intelligence than on appearance, but a fresh, clean-cut look doesn’t hurt, either.

Straight women at AU complain that satisfactory boyfriends are hard to find, as girls considerably outnumber the guys on campus. Plus, there is a notable gay population. Exploring the greater city may be a more efficient way to hook up. Don’t be afraid to go out and meet people at bars, clubs, city organizations, or just on the street. While it is somewhat difficult to find straight, good-looking guys, they do exist at AU—you just have to look a little harder.

Social Scene
The social scene at AU is varied-there's something for everyone. However, AU has an overwhelming female population. Therefore, many of the more attractive young women on campus either lower their standards-looks-wise-or choose to head off campus to find an equally attractive male counterpart. Ladies, do not fear, though: D.C. is full of eligible bachelors. Be sure to check out the frat and house parties, clubs, bars, and shows in the area.
Hookups or Relationships?
Both hookups and relationships exist commonly at AU, and both can be obtained if interested. Many of the busiest students opt for hookups, though, so as not to interfere with their schoolwork or internships.
Dress Code
Because AU is in the highly-professional capital city, the dress is more formal than most places. Students are often seen wearing suits while coming and going from internships or jobs, with slacks and collared shirts not unusual. Outside of the professional aspect of the fashion at AU, the students are indistinguishable from any other college students. Hoodies and flip-flops are everywhere!
