5 College Junior

Athletics: No football team, but the basketball and volleyball teams are great. Not to mention intramurals can get heated.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: No football team, but it's a relatively small campus with lots of girls so it is to be expected

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: I never use the sporting facilities much. But I know people who do, and people who love the sports they play. While there is no football team, there is plenty else to have AU Pride for.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: We have some good teams but sports are definitely not the mainstay here

3 College Freshman

Athletics: No one really attends the games unless there is a special event going on. But the gym facilities are very nice for working out.

Though the sports teams are Division I, and there are several intramural teams, sports do not receive the attention and notoriety that they would at some other schools. Many of the bigger sports fans on campus complain about the absence of a football team. AU is not a school where athletes receive celebrity-like attention or preferential treatment. While a football team is often the focal point of college life, there are many other ways to get involved at AU.

Some students are trying to get their peers more excited—a club known as the Blue Crew goes "all out" at the games, painting their faces and coming up with their own cheers. Basketball and volleyball are popular sports, and in the rare instance where a game is being televised, the turnout is better than usual.
