3 College Junior

Athletics: Athletics are not a very big part of student life, but those who are interested have an avenue to be interested and participate in athletics as both athletes and/or spectators.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: This is an academic oriented school, but students do enjoy sports.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: I've personally never gone to any sporting events at AU. The sports facilities are okay but some are really not taken care of at all - like the soccer and baseball field (lots of people don't even know we have one because it just looks like a big fenced area of dirt).

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Not the best, but we have nice gyms

2 College Sophomore

Athletics: I wish people cared about sports more than they do.

Though the sports teams are Division I, and there are several intramural teams, sports do not receive the attention and notoriety that they would at some other schools. Many of the bigger sports fans on campus complain about the absence of a football team. AU is not a school where athletes receive celebrity-like attention or preferential treatment. While a football team is often the focal point of college life, there are many other ways to get involved at AU.

Some students are trying to get their peers more excited—a club known as the Blue Crew goes "all out" at the games, painting their faces and coming up with their own cheers. Basketball and volleyball are popular sports, and in the rare instance where a game is being televised, the turnout is better than usual.
