Technology: The wireless kinda sucks sometimes, and I've been kicked off three or four times but it almost always immediately comes back on. But I think having a laptop is necessary. The library is crowded often, and you can't rely on it having a free computer.

Health & Safety: I haven't really heard too many problems so far this year. Campus safety is almost always present and just a phone call away if you need them. I feel pretty safe on campus, given that we're in DC and it can be a dangerous city. AU is in arguably the safest neighborhood in DC, so I'm not really worried when it comes to safety.

Guys & Girls: At the risk of sounding like a loser, I'm gonna go ahead and say that it's not so much the looks that matter as the personalities. And you can always find a really fun group of guys to hang out with. I'm friends with nearly all the boys on my floor and they're fun, entertaining, and also really dependable for the most part. Not all of them are attractive, but to each his own.

Weather: DC weather is unpredictable. It's typically hot up until mid-September, and then it starts to get weird. The weather will fluctuate from 40s and 50s up to 70s and 80s, and then by mid-October it's suddenly freezing.

Guys & Girls: AU is a diverse campus, but is somewhat known for having a preppy look. There are plenty of good looking girls and guys, and are easy to find at many frat parties and in D.C. Anyone that is unimpressed with the looks of guys and girls are simply not going to frat parties.

Greek Life: The Greek life at AU is perfectly balanced. It is a great experience going Greek, however, you don't have to go Greek to enjoy the parties. Also, there is virtually zero pressure to go Greek at AU.

Party Scene: The frat scene at AU is very prevalent, and provides free, raging parties on Tuesday's, Thursdays and on the weekend. Any haters of AU's party scene or greek life simply aren't partying enough, or don't know where to go. In addition, for people who aren't into frat parties as much, D.C. is packed with many fun clubs and bars that will guarantee you a fun night, pretty much any night of the week.

Campus Quality: AU's campus is very pleasing to the eye, and attracts many students to hangout on the lawn, study in the library, use the gym and much more.

Drug Safety: AU, being a dry campus, has a strict no-alcohol policy on campus. That being said, many students drink in the dorms and off campus as well, however, visibility and peer pressure are never an issue.

Local Area: AU is made up of a lively campus that is surrounded by plenty of shops and restaurants, and is only 15 minutes outside the center of D.C., where cultural attractions, bars, clubs and more, are abundant.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There are several apartment complexes that are close and relatively cheap, as well as many houses for rent that are within walking distance. Parking is usually not an issue, and safety in the AU area is unmatchably high.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Between the shuttles and the Metro, transportation is quick and cheap.

Off-Campus Dining: THere is a little bit of everything. I really enjoy the variety of Mexican restaurants.

Academics: The work load is average and the curriculum is well focused.

Academics: AMU offers great study tools and online discussion areas with access to digital libraries.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: I am not a fan of the cold and during the winter it gets very cold.

Overall Experience: AU is perfect with my busy life style and the teachers are flexible and very helpful.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The food is good and there is a verity however, nothing beats home cooking.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: People from all over the world attend AMU. The people are friendly and enjoy sharing experiences with one another.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: The public transportation in the area is good however, I would prefer having a car.

Local Area: The area attractions, activities, cultural events, safety, shopping, and sports/recreation are very divers. There is something for everyone. The local attitude toward students is fair.

Off-Campus Housing: It's DC so it is VERY expensive. It's always very expensive.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: Hard for me to say as I am not Greek and I do not associate with any.

Many students agree that there is something for everyone at AU, and they are rarely ever bored. Though the school’s population is relatively small and has fewer parties compared to state schools, many claim that it is worth it to be in D.C. and the surrounding area.

Upon arrival at AU, the adjustment period can be tough for people not accustomed to an urban setting. However, making friends is quite easy, and even the shyest students will be able to integrate themselves into the small, tight-knit AU community. For the most part, students have no problem expressing themselves socially or academically. It seems that a “work hard, play hard” philosophy best suits the students at American University.
