Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty to choose from in Paris!

1 person found this useful Report
4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Attending university in Paris has it's perks. If the French are known for anything, it is for love and great cuisine. And boy, do they love cuisine. The bistros, cafes, restaurants, and diner possibilities are quite literally endless. Within a five minute walk from campus in any direction, one will find dozens of dining choices. The cost is average in comparison to central Paris, although the closer you dine to the Eiffel Tower, the emptier your wallet will feel on the way home. Student discounts are not very common, but there are many dining options for tight budgets. The variety of food is seemingly endless, there is Indian, Mexican, American, British, French, Italian... you name it, and it's right at your doorstep.

Paris is one of the places in the world where it's a good time to be hungry since it is home to so many different restaurants. The cuisine ranges from Italian to Persian and everything in between. There are, needless to say, some very nice French restaurants, when students get up the courage to try authentic, French cuisine (which doesn't just consist of frog legs, snails, and roasted rabbit in mustard). The only downside is that there's not much of a difference when it comes to prices between restaurants.

It's a pretty good deal if you head out to the restaurant with friends and then split the bill along with the main dishes. That way, you get more variety at a lesser cost. There is an abundance of Chinese/Japanese/Asian restaurants in Paris, and it's not at all uncommon to see Pizza Hut or McDonald's around, either (yes, they actually do exist in Paris!). While in Paris, students will learn to appreciate a wide variety of cooking (sometimes without meaning to), learn the difference between French hot drinks, have eaten at least five types of cheese, and discover that almost anything can be put on a crepe.
