Overall Experience: My experiences at this school has been a life-time of learning opportunities that I can apply in the real world, professional settings and in my everyday life. I love the grading system which consist of no actual grades but a system where you are entitled to grade yourself "self assessment" and is given several opportunities to correct mistakes, and reassess. I enjoy the hands-on learning styles for all of my courses. At this school we engage in a lot of group work activities as well as learn how to effectively communication by giving presentations of many different kinds. I have learned so many things on researching information for things like developing a global perspective, analysis and statistical data, and lab work and assignments. The instructors consider you their family as they go out of their way to extend help beyond the classroom setting. There are resources for any issue, concern, or help a student may have. There are opportunities for students to study abroad and they are given more than enough time to plan for a trip. I wouldn't trade my school in for any other school in the world.

Off-Campus Housing: If you want to spend A LOT for a tiny little apartment that is not worth the price at all, then the Alverno apartments are great for you.

1 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Yes, Alverno is located in Milwaukee but we are in the part that there is nothing cool or good to unless you want to eat and Panda Express and BW3s.

3 College Freshman

Administration: Again, I don't live on the dorms as it's very expensive, but from what I hear the strictness goes on how serious the situation is.

1 College Freshman

Party Scene: The party scene is non-existent. I don't know why this is a deciding factor seeing as how much you are paying for your education.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I personally had issues with receiving aid but the staff is incredibly helpful.

2 College Freshman

Campus Food: The food is incredibly expensive and there are far too many options. If you have dietary needs or like to eat healthy, be ready to spend $15 plus on food.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I don't actually live on campus but I was never given the option to say so. That said, everything i have said about the dorms is from what I have seen of my friend's dorms.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: They have a lot of games but I unfortunately am only at school on the weekends and not able to attend a lot of the sporting events. The facilities look fine and the gym looks very much up to date and hold a decent crowd.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: The college is in a residential neighborhood but its a nice area with a lot of stores and restaurants close by and some apartments and houses are always renting to the college kids.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: I mean you drive one mile from campus and you are near Miller Park. Target, grocery stores, Wendy's, Qdoba plus a to fo other places. Everything is right there for food.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: I am on the weekend college program and I have seen several of the administrators including the President of the college on campus there on the weekend too. I like that they around and involved in what all the students are doing not just traditional day students.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Not a lot of financial aid (other than loans) for graduate students, not the school's fault I realize that. But a graduate scholarship program would be nice even 500 bucks or so would be a start to help with books etc.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: They do a lot of on campus activities at night which is cool, keeps people on campus instead of driving downtown sometimes.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Need more sushi available for weekend college. I like not having to leave campus for food they have a lot of choices. Long wait in lines though. Salad bar is pricey, pay per ounce.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: I do not eat off campus because I live on my own.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: I'm not sure I do not use the transportation because I have a vehicle.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I haven't received any help from the finical aid office. The one time I went in there to ask if I applied for a scholarship the women pulled up my file and LAUGHED at me while I was sitting right next to her as she responded "no".

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: It's ok. It does what it needs to.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: I was actually surprised with the variety of food the campus has to offer. I get the sandwiches which I always pack with the most I can. I feel the prices are a little high and I don't like that if you have a meal plan you cost is lowered.

Athletics: The sports are good if you are a sport person. However, the fitness center is AWFUL. SOOO OUTDATED. SO SMALL.

Scholarships: It's great if you're einstein, rich, or completely broke, ward of the state, but otherwise you're not going to get much help if any. You'll be about $120,000 in debt by your 4th year. enjoy.

3 College Student

Health & Safety: We don't have much campus crime. It's an all girl school which helps lower sexual assault. There is a security number. As for health there aren't many services. We do have a fitness center, however, it's VERY outdated.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: I got all the money i needed

4 College Freshman

Athletics: I'm not involved in any sports

In fact, many students who leave Alverno to go to other schools because of finances or because they didn't think Alverno was a good fit, often come back. Alverno is not just a school—it's a place that teaches women to think outside of the box and to understand themselves. It becomes a home for many people. Alverno graduates go on to become important women in their workplaces, communities, churches, and homes. The College offers students a unique opportunity to take a really good look at themselves and say, "Who am I?" and "Is this who I really want to be?"
