I really like how the 8 core abilities are the main framework for the curriculum.

The courses are very interesting, and have provided crucial and relevant information for respective fields of study. There are always a variety of courses offered, but seating is limited depending on the popularity of the major the courses fall under. Also, class sizes are great! Class sizes are usually small.

The instructors are very knowledgeable in the courses they teach. All the instructors that I have encountered so far in the communication field are very helpful. However, I did not have that same experience with the nursing program. The program, and instructors are very cold and rigid. It is a nurturing environment, but the nursing department does not seem the same way. It seems that if you fall behind as student then you must fend for yourself and the instructors offer very little as far as advice in how to move forward- I sought out my general advisor because I felt that I did not receive much help with my nursing instructors.

My college experience has been one of the best so far. I love how the staff member, teachers and classmates are here at Alverno College. They truly commit to their jobs and they all go out of their way to help students in whatever it is that they need to do to succeed in their courses. The teachers here care a lot about the students and they try everything they can to help us. The community like experience is awesome! There are always fun events every week and weekend for us. I love how they get singers, comedians, etc to perform here in school. I love how it's an all-girls school, how strong women could be. Their grading scale is different. We do not get letter grades instead we get either an "S" (for successful) or a "U" (for unsuccessful) and i feel like that grading scale is very helpful not only because they don't let a letter grade define who we are as a person or how smart a person could be. With that grading scale they tell us where we need improvement and how we can improve in that are. They keep giving us helpful feedback until we get it right. I wouldn't think twice about choosing Alverno if I had to do it all over again for the simple fact that this college is the one the best fit me and my learning style and their grading scale.

As I attended an Open House at Alverno, I was able to get a clear understanding of their assessment-based curriculum. Unlike other schools were you get graded by a letter, Alverno students are regularly asked to demostrate their knowledge and skill level throughout their coursework at the college. Alverno's unique curriculum consists of eight core abilities that every student must master in order to graduate. These abilities are communication, analysis, problem solving, valuing, social interaction, developing a global perspective, effective citizenship, and aesthetic engagement. These abilities ensures that you'll learn more in class and retain knowledge longer. Alverno's unique curriculum is a learning that lasts a lifetime!
