2 College Junior

Weather: There is severe winter weather and classes are rarely cancelled. This is somewhat annoying because I live about 1/2 hour away and have trouble getting to school in bad weather.

3 College Junior

Campus Quality: There are many opportunities at Alvernia. It is small but offers a lot for its size.

3 College Junior

Campus Quality: There are lots of student activities! The athletic center is awesome! The library is diverse in studies and the staff is very helpful.

4 College Senior

Scholarships: The financial aid I received were good, but I wished I could get more help instead of using more loans. The people I go to get information and ask questions were great helpers. They don't really stress you to look for more scholarships or grants to pay your tuition, but they do tell you where to look for them. If you want to speak to someone in the financial aid office, I suggest you ask if anyone is available and make an appointment because the wait can be very long.

Party Scene: The Nightlife for the students at Alvernia are good. Sometimes they have movie nights and game nights which are fun to go to. They do their best to keep the students more involve in different activities. But it's harder for commuter students to do these activities because of the parking and the night walk to the building where the activities are held.

Transportation: Transportation at Alvernia is decent. There are shuttle buses as well as Public Safety officers to drive you around. For being such a small campus, though, you often have to wait a bit too long.

Health & Safety: A little unorthodox for a Catholic University, there are a few wet residence halls. Public safety tends to keep the parties under control while safety is a priority on campus. Here and there a drunken college dude may stumble into your path but it's never an issue. Events are fun and controlled here.

Guys & Girls: There are great people at Alvernia, guys and girls, but if you're looking for specific groups of people you won't find them here. There are enough people that there are different kinds but not enough that your group is found easily. For the most part, you'll get to know just about everyone and, as a result, many people are pretty genuine.

Majors: Applying to the university is very easy. I am in an undergraduate program and worked directly with staff who focus on undergrad studies and have a good handle on dealing with individuals from all walks of life, the admission process was not a problem. I had 72 credits transfer from another college and the process of picking my classes was a cinche.

3 College Junior

Transportation: There are several parking areas that are a good distance fom the school. There are plenty of cummuter parking and the campus security is very strict with designated parking areas and will be quick to give you a $25 ticket!

5 College Junior

Weather: We experience all four seasons beautifully. I have no complaints as far as weather in the area is concerned. I live in the area so I prefer this area to begin with!

5 College Junior

Drug Safety: I am a undergrad student in a continuing education program. I do not get the opportunity to socialize with students who live on campus so therefore I am in the dark where drug and alcohol use is concerned. I have witnessed an older woman in my program of interest taking perscription pills during one of our classes and she is supposively in recovery. She took several pills. Other than that, I don't see anything.

5 College Junior

Diversity: We have a lot of students from several different backgrounds which gives flavor to certain lectures where culture is the topic of interest, especially when talking about Mental Health / Addiction stigmas and treatment. The college is a Catholic based university and we are required to take up to 3 Theology courses which can give rise to interesting debates when there is such a diverse population of students.

Off-Campus Dining: There are alot of places to eat around the campus. I attend Saturday classes and I go to dairy queen for lunch

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: I see all different backgrounds from young to old. Different cultures and different areas. I feel it is well the school has equal diversity because it gives everyone a chance to learn other things

Off-Campus Dining: There are some good eating places within a short distance of the university that serves a variety of food and, of course, the prices go from low to high.
The best way to find what you are looking for is by word of mouth.

Campus Quality: The uniqueness of Alvernia is that it is a Catholic university which welcomes all religions, ethic backgrounds and people of any race. This tell me that they are about willingness to educate all types of people and display a sense of world peace.

4 Recent Alumnus

Campus Quality: I gave it an A since I am an older adult returning to Alvernia on a part time basis for my masters degree. The library and learning center are very important to me and I spend ample time there. I have also used the career center which has been helpful as well. The employees in these area are
very helpful and courteous. It's like nothing is a bother to them.

4 College Junior

Athletics: I play golf at Alvernia and we play at a top notch facility called LedgeRock. Other facilties are very well maintained.

3 College Junior

Campus Quality: They keep everything clean and tidy. They should be more friendly!

5 College Junior

Local Area: Everyone is friendly and its pretty in the spring!

5 College Freshman

Academics: only in my 2nd semester, but so far have found the workload is similar to my high school, have not had any trouble keeping up with homework so long as I don't procrastinate. professors are helpful when needed.

3 College Freshman

Weather: its sort of the same as my home except theres snow on the ground more often here, which is hard getting to class sometimes

5 College Freshman

Academics: my theatre professor is awesome! I have learned so much in just one semester and was given the opportunity for hands on experience! all my professors thus far have impressed me with their competency and interest of their student's success. they are very accessible if you have questions which is awesome

3 College Freshman

Local Area: the surrounding area is safe for students a few close eateries and food stores/convenience stores as well as gas stations if you have a car. Vanity Fair outlet is minutes away
