Party Scene

{{ error }}
3 College Freshman

Party Scene: If you are looking to party, you can find a party. A lot of parties are held in one of the frat houses or at one of the sports teams houses.

3 College Senior

Party Scene: The party scene isn't the best at Allegheny. As a small school, there are limited options. There are lots of off-campus house parties though. However, they are often restricted to certain groups of people (Greeks only, sports only, etc) so they can be difficult to find.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: i don't usually party so I don't really know and I, not sure about parking issues

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: I'm not much of a partier and don't know where a lot of the houses are, but my friends frequently go out. It's not hard to find parties on weekends and, like a lot of schools, it's hit or miss

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: I think the party scene is pretty great considering the size of our school. Frat parties are the most fun, in my opinion, and are pretty accessible. It can be harder for boys to get in of not invited/it's a closed party. Non Greek guys in general will just usually have to pay for cups/ be with some girls when they walk in, but aside from that it's not bad. Girls can get in pretty much anywhere, and it's not too hard to avoid paying for cups if you're a girl.

Freshmen can go to house parties or do something entirely different, like go to Meadville’s theater or bowling alley. In order to have a vibrant social life as an underclassman, you’ll have to start meeting people through classes and getting invited to their parties. There are some good parties at Allegheny, but nothing loud or out of control because the cops live for busting underage drinkers and loud parties. Campus Security won't bother you, but the cops sure will if an angry neighbor calls it in.

For upperclassmen, the nightlife is the bars. There are a lot of different bars, but the one you’ll go to will probably depend on who you’re going with and what kind of atmosphere you like. Pennsylvania has really strict drinking laws; you won’t be able to even go into the bar until you turn 21. However, the bars are a good scene to go to, and since Allegheny is so small, there’s a good chance that you’ll know everyone there. The Other Place (also known as The Penny Bar) is the most popular with students for its $2 beers.

The Other Place (The Penny Bar)

The Penny Bar is a favorite place to hang out with friends and drink cheaply. Its name comes from the fact that the walls, bar, and most of the interior are covered in pennies. Inside there is even a Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial built entirely out of pennies. They have the cheapest pitchers in town, free ham salad sandwiches on Tuesdays, free popcorn on Fridays, and the best pickled eggs you could ever imagine. There is a free pool table, a pool table you have to pay for, pingpong, and board games. There is also food, which includes spam sandwiches, chips, ham sandwiches, Kielbasa sandwiches, and a soup du jour.

Otter's Pub & Grill

Otter's is best known around campus for being where the band of professors play. A lot of students go to Otter's just to see the band and often other forms of live music, as well. Otter's also has several dartboards and a pool table.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

House parties

House parties are the biggest form of nightlife at Allegheny and really the only thing available for people under 21. Loomis Street is famous for its rowdy parties and so are some special-interest houses. Off-campus parties are usually the best because there is less chance of it getting busted. Only upperclassmen really throw house parties, largely because they are the only ones with houses.
