Diversity: Accepting Environment – Overall, Allegheny College has a very accepting environment. While approximately 90 percent of students are caucasian, this does not seem to have negatively impacted the desire of the college administration to institute courses that are specifically interesting to racial minorities. The same is true for students of religious or sexual minorities. The college offers classes in Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, etc and aims offers a GLBT minor. Overall, students and professors are accepting people, who understand that the world offers far more than simply one reality.

Weather: Mud Season for Months – snow in the winter. mud season lasts from november to april. lots of gray. make sure you love your winter jacket and bring real boots.

Health & Safety: Safe Campus, Sketch Town. I never feel in danger on Allegheny's campus. Off campus housing is a little sketch but not unsafe. You just have to have street smarts and be aware, like you would anywhere. Police patrol dorms, but aren't necessarily searching for trouble. They are very nice and will always say hi and ask you about your day. Campus police are not famous for breaking up parties, most likely the town police will beat them to it.

Overall Experience: Allegheny is a great chance for college students to become a part of the college community and community. In both cases you get that next step of independence and as the years go one you have the choice to experiance more through classes and housing. Allegheny has made my life enjoyable while helping to teach me how to adjust to the world to come!

Transportation: Transportation around campus is not an issue. One can easily walk at a leisurely pace and reach the opposite side of campus in about 12 mins. In addition to that the college has a deal with the local public transportation company (CATA) to provide free transportation to students with their ID cards.

Technology: Computer Lab Availability – There are plenty of computer labs on campus for every student. You are almost always ensured that there will be a computer open is said lab as well. Only exceptions are when a class is meeting in the lab that day, but that is only a minor issue seeing how there are plenty more labs that are close to you including the library.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many places to eat, although, probably not enough for college students. There is good quality, but not enough

Local Area: There are plenty of things to do in Meadville. There is a lake nearby, where people can fish and swim. There are plenty of resaraunts close to the college. It is also an hour from both cleveland and pittsburgh, so there is plenty of urban life going on there as well.

Something commonly heard from recent graduates is how much easier graduate programs were after the rigorous Allegheny courseload. Whether at grad school or at their first job out of college, Allegheny graduates have the skills to succeed in their fields. When considering their time at Allegheny, most students are very thankful for the education they received and all of the great people they got to know. There are so many different kinds of people and points of view that students are encouraged to do anything they truly want to do. Most people feel that they have really grown and changed as a result of the Allegheny experience—and in a good way.

There are students who have regrets or who feel they were in some way disappointed with their Allegheny education or experience. For one thing, Meadville does not provide the kinds of opportunities or the nightlife that a big-city university would. Succeeding at Allegheny is a lot of work and students looking for a party school will not find it here. It takes a lot of time and effort, and for some, it might not be worth it. But all that time and effort is meant to pay off, and for hard-working students, it does.
