Campus Quality: Simple but Nice – The school is located in a remote environment which isolates students from much of the world. However, the freedom of expression and the promotion of student involvement and leadership in the school's management have helped breed independence and confidence in graduates.

Parking: The hilly campus poses difficulties in finding convenient parking. Most students park their vehicles far from their housing. The little space available is always struggled for.

Transportation: Alfred is in the middle of nowhere. If you want to go to Walmart everyday bring your own car. Or ride the bus which only goes to Hornell and seems to be inconveniently placed during all of my classes. Its a good thing I don't want to go any place.

Guys & Girls: All of the people at Alfred are friendly so you won't have a hard time chatting anybody up. There are a ton of different styles because of all the majors afford. Classy looking business majors, tired looking engineers, and grungy art students.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Ade Vs Powell – So there are two dining halls on campus and everyone claims one is better then the other but whatever. I prefer Powell because it has breakfast in the morning but its not open on the weekends which sucks. If you're a vegetarian or like to eat on the healthier side then this is a good place for you. Its not the best food in the world but I miss sitting and talking to friends for hours over pizza.

Overall Experience: I Love It Here – If I had the money I would even stay for the summers at Alfred. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. My friends are there, my art is there, and I don't have to make my own food. I have enjoyed all of my professor and classes. It just feels like home.

Administration: Not Strict Enough – Lately it seems that drinking has gotten out of hand, especially with the freshmen. I can't believe the number of students who are passed out and yet are still aloud to go to classes on Monday. Maybe the fines should be higher for being caught with alcohol while under age. I'm not so much against drinking but these kids need to learn responsibility.

Party Scene: Campus Events – I find the campus events pretty amazing. A new movie every Friday night for only $2. Comedians, bands, and performers are booked all the time for us to enjoy and they are usually free. For a couple of bucks towards a club or good cause there are late night dances and club events. So if you're underage or not a party goer like me then you don't have to worry about being stuck in the dorms with the amount of things to do for free.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Sports Athletic – Enjoy being apart of the soprst. Helps me get out of streees. I liked to play.

3 College Sophomore

Technology: Labs in Mathematics – The labs are fun to be at. Everything you do there is enjoyeable.

2 College Freshman

Campus Housing: THE DORMS – I really hate the dorm at Alfred university. They have RA'S that want to treat you like children, and dirty people who can't clean u after themselves on the weekends the restrooms are horrible. On the weekends there is nothing to do but the the same things over and over again. Since so many people are local they go home dont he weekends making the school feel lonely.

Health & Safety: Alfred is so small I feel safe no matter what. I am out and about two three even four in the morning without any worry. Crime in Alfred?? Never even really hear about any of that stuff.

Off-Campus Dining: Coming from Los Angeles I'm accustomed to dining at amazing restaurants. I love food international cuisines are my favorite. Alfred extremely lacks places to eat. You really have to hunt down if you want anything fancy and even then you have to drive miles away.

Transportation: There is only one bus that runs to Hornell Daily to take students to the supermarket. No other need for transportation.

Campus Housing: AU Housing Options – The pine hill suites are nice and comfortable, but you have to walk up a big hill. The upper class apartments are bigger and more conveniently located. Isolated living at on campus houses is also an option. Many students move off campus after two years.

2 College Sophomore

Scholarships: my father lost his job and I'm not directly dealing with the process myself but I haven't been able to receive any more aid since then. I want work study but I can't seem to get it. I'm working on it.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: You Just Have You Learn to Enjoy the Outdoors – all weather is beautiful. people are just bad at enduring when the going gets a little rough. it gets very cold and it is very windy. it is usually cloudy. when it is sunny, the entire atmosphere of campus changes. everyone is ecstatic and everyone is outdoors enjoying themselves. it really is a beautiful thing to experience.

5 College Sophomore

Local Area: Very close knit and friendly community. the organic grocery store is fantastic. there are other good food places. the local coffee shop has an open mic night and everything is in walking distance. lots of visiting artists and random events.

Drug Safety: Always Available, Never Hindering the Academic Experience – If you want something, it is there. If you don't, you would hardly know anyone deleves into it. In a place like Alfred, it is recreational. I would say there is zero peer pressure, but I am sure in some small circles there is.

Academics: A Gem Hidden Away Upstate – Alfred University has the prescence of an Ivy League School tucked away in a small valley in Upstate New York. Program offered range from Chinese to Equine Studies. Focus remains in the Art and Engineering programs, but recent accreditdation for the Business School and additions to the Performing Art Infastructure make them valid candidates for strongest program. The class size always puts you on a personal level with professors and the small-town atmosphere, makes it inevitable that you see them outside of class. People, professors and students alike, gravitate to Alfred because they are serious about their subjects and want the time to delve into them. I was surprised how often I would find out that a professor was recently publishing a book, a major scienctific article or showing their art in places like the MOMA in NYC.

Diversity: I think...maybe, just maybe...there are more Asians from overseas here than black people.

Weather: You're gonna be cold, man. Some freshmen come to this school excited for snow and can't wait until the first snowfall. They will leave this place with a very different opinion.

Admissions will tell you not to worry about the snow because there are heated sidewalks. This is mostly a lie. Only certain sidewalks are heated, and they're probably not where you live.

If you aren't somewhat fond of winter, you probably shouldn't come here. It's not a happy place.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: There are a few good looking girls and a few good looking guys but overall, I'd give the campus a 6/10. The dress is interesting and it varies as there are many art students and many engineers. Boys are sex crazy as usual but so are the girls. You'll find mostly country types, city types, and a few crazies.

4 College Junior

Technology: Always Access – There are a ton of computer labs on campus. There is at least one for each school and many for the engineering school. The only real issue is that the wireless sometimes goes out. This can be easily fixed by a call to ITS but they have very specific hours. The labs are spread out all over campus so no matter where you stay, you'll be close to a computer. Plus one library offers laptop rental.

3 College Junior

Campus Quality: Great Libraries – The facilities at Alfred are generally good. The Libraries in particular are full of helpful people and tons of books. They let you rent computers and headphone if you life. There is an on-campus gym with a decent array of machines and room for a good percentage of the student population. There are tons of campus activities mostly run by students and the Center for Career Development is great. Alfred is absolutely beautiful in every other aspect. The buildings are aesthetically pleasing at every turn.

Throughout your Alfred experience, you or someone close to you will utter the phrase, "I've got to get out of here." Students at AU make threats to transfer at least twice daily. Still, very few actually do. Many students stay for an extra year. Some stay for grad school, and a good portion of the staff is composed of AU alumni. Why? Students are spoiled! It's comfortable here, the financial aid is great, and many professors are also great mentors. Who would want to leave all that personal attention and a close-knit group of friends to just be a number at another university with a better football team?

AU students will disparage their time at AU with venom. When asked to appraise their experience honestly, however, they'll shrug their shoulders and admit that Alfred has helped them to learn and grow as individuals. While some individuals transfer, the majority of students that chose Alfred knows deep down that they couldn't be anywhere else.
