3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: they always have seminars about programs, internships, and scholarships for most majors

Guys & Girls: we have a diversity of races even though we are prodominately black and everyone mixes in well

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: The only reason it feels unsafe is because there are not that many sources of lights around the campus and the only way you will see lights is by going toward the cafe to get to your dorm from a night class, which is a long way..

Campus Food: The food in the cafe is ok.. It's just we have a total of 4 line and in 3 lines they serve the se foods except for on thanksgiving holiday.. It's a variety of pizza in one line , hamburger and fries in another line, a sandwich line and a line that serves the meal of the day...

Technology: LABS ROCK, free printing. You have to pay copies though in library. I've been told that you can fax in library as well.

Diversity: everyone is accepting of people from different backgrounds. they actually take an interest in them in some situations and want to know more about how they found out about the school. it is a diverse background in every aspect.

Academics: NURSING: workload-is definitely a lot but its worth it. Clinicals are limited to what you get to see or do, but fun for the most part. Facilities are good. there are numerous resources available to students who struggle with content. you will have a full load of classes.

Academics: It's easy to get along with professors. they are willing to work with you and are always open. Registration can take forever if you don't do it early and wait to late or long to complete.

Overall Experience: It's a cool school. We can be like a family at times and get along.

Parking: THEY love to tow and write tickets!!! follow all the parking rules if you know them. if you question your tickets, go talk to the dept asap they will work with you. The parking is horrible. you are limited to where you can park.

Campus Housing: THE ROOMS ARE SMALL AND BEDDING IS OUT OF DATE!! there are 3 options for women. 1. Honors dorm which i LOVE. It is quiet when you need it to be, spacious, and plenty of parking. The bathrooms are shared with you, your roommate and your 2 suite mates, which is better than sharing with an entire floor. There are 3 study rooms inside the dorm, a computer lab, and a laundry room.
2. Burrus hall, which is completely outdated. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
3. New dorms. They are almost like mini apartments you share with 3 other people or you can get a private that you share with one other person. The rooms have a living room/kitchen (with only a tv, sink, and fridge), a common sink outside of the toilet/tub area, a bathroom (toilet and tub), and two rooms (2 people in each room).

Campus Food: After about a semester here, you can pretty much guess what the cafe is serving on particular days. But WEDNESDAYS are always CHICKEN DAY...you have to get to the cafe when it opens to get a seat and a plate, the cafe basically turns into a club with music dancing and eating. FRIDAYS ARE FISH DAY. You are served in a buffet manner. all you can eat. you get 3 different options. 1. Pizza line 2. burger line 3. entree line!! the food is good, but sometimes it can be quite a surprise when you bite into something or even look at it.
Besides the cafe, there is a Sub Connection, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, an eatery within the cafe on campus (aka Subway).
Right behind the campus there are 4 eateries 1. Pattons, 2. Wingos(serve wings, burgers, fries, etc.) , 3. CJs, and 4. i don't know the name but they serve a variety of things.

Local Area: There are two different campuses for my school. I have had the opportunity to live at both. The main campus is really remote. The nearest town is 15 minutes away, and there is only one small town grocery store, about 3 dollar stores (dollar general, freds, and family dollar), two main eateries (sonic and chinese restaurant) there is also a chicken place inside a gas station. about 30 minutes away from the main campus is the Nursing campus which is located in a bigger city. In this city there are thousands of ood options (mcdonalds, burger king, pizza hut, dominos, wendy's, kfc, taco bell, chinese restaurants, casinos, hole in the walls, coffee shops, downtown restaurants, seafood, etc.). The is also a WALMART here along with other shopping centers. the mall doesn't offer many choices. But an hour and a half away are larger cities who offer more.

Administration: The thing that the school itself is known to be strict about is parking. They are big on writing students tickets and towing, if you fail to purchase a parking decal or follow the parking rules and regulations that are in place. Nursing school: policies and procedures are followed to the T. There is no bending of the rules.

Campus Quality: I like them, but they could use improvement.

Technology: I think the computer networks are great, but u might need a laptop.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: I just don't see it around as much.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: It's not that bad, it's just some things we can't do.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I wouldn't know about it.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I like the school but it could be increasingly better.

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: It's in the middle of the country and there aren't many things to do.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I received a scholarship to run track.

1 College Freshman

Party Scene: Every place there is to go for nightlife is far because ASU is in the middle of nowhere. The clubs are subpar and the people typically get sloppy drunk and smoke inside. Underage nightlife is the same as of age nightlife, there are no limits.

1 College Freshman

Scholarships: I got accepted to ASU on a full academic scholarship, but I was still made to pay out of state fees. The people at financial aid are slow and incompetent. Students on campus call the process the "Alcorn Runaround". No matter how many times you call the office or how many transfers to higher level people you get, it is almost impossible to get your financial aid on time. I did not even get my scholarship funds on time. The financial aid process really needs improving at ASU.

Diversity: The diversity at Alcorn State is very much emphasized. I personally am a part of the Diversity Champions group so I come in contact with many diverse people. However; it is very easy for diversity to be hidden under all of the homogenous people. I do not know much about the political beliefs of people, politics are not discussed much unfortunately. There are not many people on campus who do not have Christian beliefs, but there are multiple denominations of Christianity, and there is a chapel on campus where I volunteer every Sunday. There are people of different sexual orientations and for the most part they float along in the crowd unscathed.
