Off-Campus Dining: Resurants Are Scarce – Restaurants are somewhat distant off-campus. To find a good one you would have to travel about 26 to 30 miles from the school campus. Goldies Barbecue in Vicksburg is a nice restaurant. They have the best potato salad and baked beans. Shoney's in Vicksburg is also a nice place to eat breakfast. They offer a wide variety of breakfast foods for a reasonable price on the breakfast bar. Tony's Place is a good option for gorumet or soul food and also a nice place to take a date.

Transportation: Buses Are a Good Options – Public transportation is offered in certain areas such as Vicksburg and Natchez for a reasonable fee.

Weather: Sunshine and Rain – Although the weather changes with the seasons as it should, we experience a lot of sunshine and rain. Neither effect activities or classes on campus unless the weather gets really bad like say a tornado or flooding. Students here love being able to hang out outside when the weather conditions are perfect.

Health & Safety: Safety First – Alcorn officials work very hard to keep their students feeling safe. Some techniques include the use of student identification cards on the doors of all residence hall, as well as having to show them to the campus security upon entering the campus gates. Surveillance cameras are all over campus and campus police are on patrol 24 hours. There is no reason to feel unsafe. But like many other schools, students are advised to keep their doors locked to avoid theft or pranks.

Drug Safety: Drugs and Alcohol Are Almost Equal in Usage – The usage of drugs and alcohol are very popular on the campus of Alcorn Sate University. About 45%, if not more, of the students indulge in smoking and drinking alcohol. Both substances are being used at an equal amount, not one more than the other.

Campus Housing: New Dorms Are the BEST Dorms! Its very roomy and very clean. We don't have to use a public bathroom with the whole dorm.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Fair Prices! The prices are very reasonable and the people are very fair.

3 College Senior

Transportation: Own Car or Friend With Cars – everything is at least 15 to 30 mins away such as wal mart or any other store of food place that's not on campus. its best you have your own car or have a friend with a car

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Campus Living – it's very expensive and it will rip your mouth out!

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: The Middle of No Were – we don't have any nearby off campus dining area's everything is so far apart because of our school location...

5 College Senior

Academics: The professors go above and beyond to make sure no one is left behind. If you try your best and give it your all then you're bound to succeed.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: There aren't many options too close by but the prices are pretty decent. There's not alot of variety so you may get tired of eating the same thing over and over unless you're up to a 45 minute drive

3 College Senior

Technology: They may be a little slow sometimes but they're good enough for what you need to do. If one lab is crowded or printer is broken then there are many more to choose from

2 College Senior

Local Area: Nothing Is Close to Campus – There's nothing close to campus to do. You have to drive at least an hr for entertainment

3 College Senior

Greek Life: Life of a Greek – Greek Life is very fun and very supportive to a school setting. Becoming a greek take s a lot of discipline from yourself and it also gives each person abetter since of brotherhood and sisterhood

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: CJ's Restaurant – The closest and most convenient places to eat near ASU which offers a variety of food is CJ's. The food there is affordable and very tasty.

3 College Senior

Technology: Computer Labs – There are computer labs on campus, which is a huge plus during midterms and finals.

3 College Senior

Campus Food: Dining Hall – The food in the dining hall for lunch is okay but for dinner you are lucky you have other places around campus to eat.

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Girls Dorms – The dorms for female college students are okay. Building A & B and the honor dorms are the best to stay. However, Buildings A & B are the farthest from everything on campus.

3 College Senior

Academics: My overall experience with the professors at Alcorn State University has been a good one. Some of them were excellent always making themselves available to help and encourage you along the way.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: Little to Do – the atmosphere is pretty, but there is hardly anything to do for fin besides planned activities

3 College Freshman

Administration: No One Cares – The police ride around inspecting, but they don't actually inspect.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Alcorn= Awesome – I love Alcorn very much! The environment is so peaceful and relaxing. There is a balance of social life and academic life. It's only boring if you don't make it exciting. The faculty and staff are some of the best I have ever experienced.

4 College Junior

Technology: There are labs opening on campus in every department now. Computers are free to use and printing is free as well. There is a limit per day, but it is still enough for one student. There is no limit on how long a student can use a computer in the labs. A lab director is sometimes available.

3 College Junior

Local Area: Secluded Area – Alcorn is definitely a transition. If a student is used to a big city with lots to do then they will have a lot of adapting to do when attending Alcorn. It is at least 15 minutes from the small local cities and at least 45 minutes away from bigger cities. Fun things still happen on campus though.
