Parking: The parking is not as bad as it seems. It just the simple fact that you have to be there early enough to get a parking spot and a good one at the most if you do not intend on walking a far distance to get to your vehicle, especially on those bad alcorn weathery days.

Parking: Parking on campus is dreadful. There aren't enough parking spots by the brand new dormitories for all of the occupants to park. Or people end up parking so far from their dormitory, they might as well park their car where the class for the next day is. Students must get to the parking lot right after another class ends in order to get a parking spot before their next class.

Academics: I am an Accounting major at Alcorn State, and I would have to say that I am not too pleased with the education I am receiving.. for a lack of a better phrase. I feel as if the teachers are lazy and are just trying to get through the material that they are supposed to get through without trying to actually teach the material. However, I find that the further along in my courses I go, the more the teachers are trying to teach.

Local Area: Although Alcorn is surrounded by plenty of beautiful land, it is literally in the middle of nowhere. Wal*Mart and all fast food places are about 30 minutes away, so it is hard fulfill your hunger needs late at night. The local community is usually very welcoming, but if you're not used to the "rural" areas, then it looks farely run down and not modern.

Off-Campus Housing: The off campus housing are not furnished, but the rent is cheap.

1 College Freshman

Transportation: Only a shuttle bus at ASU that hardly every comes around. Most students who don't have cars walk to class.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Even though Alcorn is a historic black college, the school is very diverse. All different religions and races at ASU.

3 College Freshman

Technology: The printers at school be out of ink sometimes. The computer lab be crowed at time, which make it harder for students who need to use a computer that do not own one.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I am pleased with my major. I enjoy my program of study. I like getting to know the professors that I am going to work with most of my college career is a beneficial experience.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Getting in Agribusiness Management was an application process to the university and a declaration of my major. I entered college with the required college preparatory curriculum. There is not an additional application. If you are interested in a major and not sure of the admission process just ask questions.

Majors: I am totally pleased with my major, however some of the professor think all students come from the same background and with the same skill set.

Transportation: You must provide basically you own transportation.

3 College Senior

Athletics: Certain sports get more publicity than others. The money makers on campus are of course football and men's basketball. I feel as though the women's basketball team on has a good turn out because the games usually take place before the men's games. Those are the sports that the alumni involvement is found in. Also, at times it seems as though those are the only sports the athletic department cares about either. As a minor sports athlete, I find this highly evident. Lesser sports are often times pushed aside.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: The drug scene is pretty noticeable, especially on weekends. Many do it shamelessly in the parking lots despite it being dry campus. Yet, students can get away with it because it is not heavily enforced by campus police. It has become a norm.

3 College Senior

Parking: There is not a huge need for owning a car on campus, but it depends on your major. Luckily, friends are generous in offering rides to those car-less. Parking permits are somewhat of a pain. You get them to prevent tickets, but they aren't always enforced. Depending on where you are trying to park it can get ridiculous. This is particularly the case in the cafeteria parking lot. It is not a true parking lot but rather an open gravel lot we park at. Some people do not know common courtesy and will block your car in.

3 College Senior

Technology: Certain computer rooms have better technology than others. However, the printers in the library are often out of order, which is a huge inconvenience to some students. As for the wireless connection, it has it's good and bad days. Luckily it is accessible throughout the campus. However, during the week when everyone is on campus it can get sluggish. Additionally, during small storms you can bank on it going in and out.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: The night life here is pretty much what you make it. There is a "club" on the campus where all of the parties are held. The parties are for everyone, regardless of age. There have only been 1-2 parties held that were for 21 or older. As for off-campus: that doesn't happen unless you have a car or know someone with a car. There are some places nearby (15-20 min away being the closest), but there is no public transit or cabs to take so parties off campus are not convenient for everyone. There are a lot of parties that take place, but my advice is to hang with friends.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: The campus officials treat us as if we are college students, which means they do not make a fuss about partying. There is no curfew, but there are visitation hours set in place at the dormitories. The strictness comes in when the students take the partying back to the dorms. There are quiet hours set in place for each dormitory. Campus officials are also strict on academics. There is no partying or visitation during mid-terms and finals. The campus is practically shut down during those times. I think the campus is lenient enough to allow the students to be students and party and drink. But it is also strict enough to make students get serious about their academics.

Diversity: Alcorn is an HBCU, so it was not shocking that the majority of the student body is African American. Though when I got here, I was surprised by how many other people of different nationality I saw. The school is prided on its diversity. There is the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion that specializes in celebrating the differences among the students, but also bringing us together as one. Also, even though some people may have the same skin color, there backgrounds are so different. I have been touched and inspired by some of the stories I have heard and learned from. Alcorn gets an A on diversity and inclusion because there have been specific measures taken to help the student body feel like a family regardless of color, politics, sexual orientation, etc.

Health & Safety: The campus is not a dangerous campus. There have been a few incidents (fights), but, the campus is safe. I haven't felt unsafe on the campus. The only time I think people feel unsafe is when walking by themselves at night, and this can be prevented by walking with other people. But overall, the campus is comfortable and safe.

Campus Housing: Alcorn State has the best greenery anyone can ever imagine on a college campus!! There is no favorite when it comes to my school's campus!! Words can't explain the excitement you feel when living on this wonderful reservation! I leave you with the words of Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, "There's no place like home," and indeed Alcorn is a home away from home!!

5 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Due to the fact that I'm non-Greek, I'm peeping from the outside on in!! Here on the yard, the Greeks seems as if they are family!! It's no competition and each organization shows respect towards another! Greek life doesn't affect social atmosphere here, why because they converse with everyone! Greeks at Alcorn State don't judge another person based upon their status, Greek or not they still treat you the same. Housing for Greeks are not available on campus, therefore each organization has it's on tree to represent their brother/sisterhood!

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: I'll reward my school with an A!! I say this because we have a variety of foods to choose from in case it's something you may not like!! No one leaves the cafe on an empty stomach!

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I received an amazing amount of financial aid and scholarships. Getting a hold of individuals in the financial aid office via telephone or walk in can sometimes prove to be difficult however once the process is done I received all the financial aid necessary.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The dorms I stayed in were great, because they were new. The only downside was the lack of wifi access in the dorms and other places around campus.
