Off-Campus Dining: Because Albertus is set in New Haven, a rather large city, there are plenty of options off-campus for food, and the Yale shuttle buses help with transportation for those who can't/don't drive or don't feel comfortable with their friends driving them around. I've only been downtown with my college friends a few times, but I've gone to quite a few restaurants with other people outside of a college-based setting. My high school also happened to be in New Haven, and as such, I've visited the area's local spots.

Overall, the off-campus dining is pretty good if you know what you're looking for. Plenty of delivery and pizza options.

Campus Food: During orientation, the food is great quality and plated well, but as soon as those three days are over, the meals drop in quality and options. I find that a lot of my friends complain about the food, and for good reason. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of special offers for kids with allergies, food issues, or need different diet plans. Once in a while the school will offer vegetarian meals, but those are almost always prepared as the main course, which leaves those who prefer meat out of the equation, forcing them to eat a lot of pasta, pizza, or wait in a long line for a mediocre sandwich.

I don't usually spend my time eating in the dining hall, as it can be very loud and overwhelming sometimes. Many of my friends eat in the pub in the lower level of the campus center, which tends to be much quieter. Because of this, though, a lot of people leave their plates, cups, and utensils lying around on the tables, which never get cleaned up properly. From what I know, apparently some of the custodians actually throw away the dishes.

I also think it's a bit of a stretch to charge someone $6 for a small plate of food, especially those who commute and don't have meal cards/plans. Yes, you can go back and get more food, but if someone just wants that small plate, it should really be closer to, say, $4 than 6.

Scholarships: The financial aid process went smoothly after a tiny hiccup during the beginning of my first semester. The issue happened during the summer between my graduation from high school and attending Albertus, but was resolved quickly. There seemed to be a problem with what my high school had sent to the financial aid office, and as such, required several phone calls from my college to my high school. As mentioned previously, the ordeal was managed in a timely and easy manner.

As for tips I have for financial aid, it is vital that you finish your FAFSA as soon as possible. This is probably the most important step, as an unfinished/unsubmitted or incorrect FAFSA can result in a huge headache for all those involved in the process. Other than that, finding good scholarships and other financial aids takes a little investigation, and I recommend finding out about personally specific aids as soon as you can. Make an account on a website that helps search for scholarships, talk to your high school teachers about deals they can point you in the direction of, and make sure to finish everything on time. Sticking close to due dates is incredibly important, as you don't want to miss out on a $2,000 scholarship that you have absolute eligibility for just because you didn't think to look up the deadline.

Administration: Students' attendance is taken at every class, and any underage drinking results in penalties for all underage students, AND students who are at least 21 if they are drinking with students who are not.

Health & Safety: We have security patrolling the campus at all hours, and the director of residential life also patrols whenever students are partying. We have fire drills about once a semester. Nothing too serious has ever happened to make me feel particularly unsafe.

Party Scene: Students definitely do party in the dorms (mostly Dominican Hall). The parties aren't as big as in other schools, but everyone still has fun. I would say it is a positive impact for most, negative for some who are new to the party scene.

Local Area: New Haven is a little unsafe in some areas, as one can imagine. However, downtown New Haven has a lot of activities for students to participate in.
