Drug Safety

5 College Student

Drug Safety: No one is peer pressured and it is not enlightened.

5 College Senior

Drug Safety: I always feel safe on campus, and drugs are not an issue.

Drug Safety: The drug scene at Alaska Pacific University is pretty noticable but students that take part usually get caught by teh drug safety protrol on campus. If they suspect anything they do searches of students dorm rooms. Most students dont smoke pot in their dorm rooms but instead the woods that surround the campus, but in Alaska winter is really cold so most students smoke in their cars if they have one.

Drug Safety: APU is a dry campus, and it is the job of the RAs and staff to enforce this policy. From what I've observed, students on campus have no problem accessing alcohol regardless of whether they are legally old enough to drink. There is a fair amount of on-campus drinking, some of it wandering around in the woods at night. I understand that the dry campus policy is a result of the harsh winters here, the idea being that wandering around campus drunk could very quickly lead to someone passing out in a snowbank and becoming hypothermic. This argument doesn't make much sense in practical terms, however, because it seems as though many of the dorm students that drink go out in the woods to do so, whereas if it were legal on campus they could stay in their rooms to drink, staying warm and safe.

As far as drugs go, marijuana seems to be used by many people on campus, again mostly at night in the woods. It's fairly well hidden from staff and administrators, but it's hard to miss as a student.
