Alabama State University is a great school for the overall HBCU experience, this school is best known academically for education, history, and criminal justice majors. I see a lot of potential and most professors in that field, but as far as my field I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in computer science, I just wish the school had better professors who wouldn't just write notes and expect you to learn that way. I wish we could have done more with applications and new era computer skills. Also just needs a more exciting view on computers science. Overall ASU is a great spirited school with the best band in the land! I loved president Boyd! She was like no other president I seen, actually seeing a university president care for the students like she did was amazing.

I would not choose another HBCU even if I had the chance to. Alabama State University has taught me so much about myself, as well as the Alabama itself. There are so many opportunities at my HBCU that you would have no choice but to be engaged with the student body. You meet people from all over the world and the education is just wonderful! Not only do the professors teach, but their passionate about it and you learn about life situations as well. I will never forget my experience at Alabama State University, and I will forever be grateful for the friends, professors, and knowledge that I have gained.

I honestly do love my university, but there are small things that the administration can do that will help tremendously. Some of those small things are simply installing water bottle refill systems onto the water fountains in dorms and also purchasing vacuums for the dorms. There are many other things but those are just two things that come to mind. I would also like to see my school treat the band program better. I have been in the band for going on 3 years and the marching band is really the face of the school. We deserve better treatment. I have had most of my best experiences being in the university's marching band. One other issue is the policy for academic scholarships. I graduated from high school as valedictorian but did not get an academic scholarship because they ran out of funds. And the policy for academic scholarships is they are only awarded to incoming freshmen and transfer students.
