4 College Sophomore

Academic Flexibility: I recently changed my major from fine art to photography and the process was easy and quick. My classes for the most part are flexible and i usually had a three day weekend.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The school is unique in location and campus type, it's extensive online courses and great teachers, but the cost is a HUGE drawback.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The class sizes are small and the teachers are great and dedicated to helping each student one on one.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Its a good school for talented people with a lot of money. The teachers and other staff are great but admin needs to fix some things like buses, costs of tuition and classes, dorms and classrooms being upgraded. There is no family or friend atmosphere as there is no actual campus

Online Courses: The online classes are very easy to log into, and to understand. You don't have to be tech savvy to understand how to operate through the classes. They offer classes all year round in for the most, every subject and major. The class is centered around doing the work when you can but still turning things on time. The teachers are understanding and very good at clearly conveying the assignment and what they are looking for.

Student Body: Because AAU is not a traditional campus there are less places to run into classmates, the dorms are not friendly to people who do not live there, and the clubs are hardly active. The student body has rare events and usually poorly advertise them. You mostly meet friends through class that you go to once or twice a week, so much not interaction. Also, because the workload is pretty heavy, there is no such thing as parties, etc. If you are looking for that tradition college experience, you won't find it at AAU.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Tuition is very expensive and doesn't cover classes, which are also extremely expensive and charged separate. The education is worth the money but at the same time, i'd say the same thing if it were a few thousand dollars less, which would make and my parents much happier. On top of tuition, dorms, meal plans, and classes they try to squeeze out every dime with costs with mac labs and fines with rooms. Financial aid is often given and asked of for probably every student.

Career Services: I haven't experienced this side of the AAU but they seem to really advertise he work of talented alumni and often show gallery work for alumni artists. I know that there are required job courses that help with networking and resumes. From what i understand, nearing graduation they really focus on trying to put the student into the industry as soon as possible, which is nice.

Academic Experience: Being a fine arts major, you have to expect to work hard and for long hours. The first year you go through basics like figure drawing. Every single one of my teachers were kind and dedicated to help everyone from every level. Interestingly enough every single teacher warned my class about the school and it's issues and commercialization. The curriculum is good but you can't take more than four classes, and sometimes for a good reason. If you don't take more than three classes though, expect to graduate in six years. Needless to say after my second semester i found interest in other majors and have since transferred but i've learned a lot from each instructor that i won't forget. Every teacher had kind words to say to each student and one even gave me his book (yes, shameless self promotion) but it was still sweet! The fine art department teachers truly care about the students.

3 College Sophomore

Academic Experience: Every instructor i've had has been accommodating, respectful and dedicated to helping every student on every level. The curriculum is good but can be quick of you are a slow worker. Expect to work long hours each night throughout the week. Class registration is easy and can be done online and over the phone with very friendly advisors who are genuinely interested in what you want to take but will help you with whatever route you're looking for, such as graduating on time. The workload is a lot and is often the reason for drop-outs. It's almost a pride thing to try and stay through all the hellish years of hard work, but i suppose it pays off in the end. There are great tutoring options and if you are failing a class you will get a grade alert and offered assistance.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Resources: The gyms available are very small and limited, there aren't very many campus activities and clubs aren't very active. Most resources are helpful and the mac lab is useful but costs money if you aren't enrolled in a class that provides access to the lab. The bus services are often unreliable, especially if you have a class that is far from your dorm and it comes once every hour and is small and has to take students over the capacity limit of the bus. The food is good and they offer Knight Kash which is similar to a credit card that lets you buy food from local businesses. The teachers are all around nice and really strive to help you and look out for you. The student center and tutors are very polite and helpful and it's completely free. The dorms are old and could use some remodeling and stricter rules. Overall, the biggest draw-back is the commercial and financial focus of the school coming from administration who try to get as much money as possible through fines, etc.

3 College Junior

Student Body: Lots of diversity and generally everyone is friendly and accepting, but international students self-segregate.

College Sophomore

Academic Flexibility: Nothing was accepted, and there were no discussions around why or why not.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: No major complaints yet, but I would really like more options for financial assistance.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: From what I've seen, this school has some great connections in the field of creative arts. I also think it's location in San Francisco adds some benefit to my field given that a lot of tech companies are located in Northern California. I'm hoping as I gain more skill and confidence, I can utilize my knowledge and connection to the school to secure employment.

4 College Sophomore

Online Courses: So far, I've enjoyed my experiences with the course work online.

College Sophomore

Student Body: Again, as an online student, my interactions are restricted to a class message board, so I don't have much interaction outside of random posting. I've chatted with a few students about starting a study group that meets via video chat, but nothing has come of it.

2 College Sophomore

Tuition & Financial Aid: Considering I am in a two-year program, the cost per credit hour is pretty costly. I selected this school because of it's rating and reputation in the field that I am pursuing, but I was hoping there would be more scholarship or funding assistance options through the school. I really want this degree, but as a working adult with LOTS of financial responsibilities, this is proving to be difficult.

College Sophomore

Career Services: I haven't made use of the career services at my school yet.

3 College Sophomore

Academic Experience: This experience is still new to me. I've completed an undergrad degree on a university campus, but now I am a part-time online student at a university across the country from my state of residence. I like the instructors from my two classes so far, but I haven't been particularly wowed by anything given I am limited to online.

4 College Sophomore

Academic Experience: The curriculum has been great. I feel like I've learned a lot already.

College Sophomore

Campus Resources: I'm an online student, so I don't have any experience with campus resources.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: In my opinion, this is a very good school and easy to interact with industry professionals. I would choose to go to the academy again if i can do it all over. I've learned a lot through out my time in the program.

1 College Freshman

Tuition & Financial Aid: Tuition is horrible and financial aid is not enough especially the situation I'm going through.
