Weather: The weather sucks in Northeast Ohio. Rarely any sun.

5 College Junior

Scholarships: I had a very easy time with financial aid and didn't have any issues.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Personally i am married so i have no interest in finding someone. But people are descent on campus but nothing special.

3 College Junior

Transportation: There is the WRTA which is a bus that takes people around the Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbia county.

3 College Junior

Diversity: I think diversity on our campus is very average. I don't hear of our campus having problems with diversity. It's very calm.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: I don't personally attend parties but i know friends who attend these parties and they seem to enjoy themselves and have a good time. I know they have some awesome diskjokeys on campus parties and i think that's a good way to see how creative people are on our campus.

3 College Junior

Athletics: There are many students who are very into our school sports and they try to get everyone involved. They make it very friendly for everyone. No one is left out. different people from all groups of people are there to support the YSU penguins. I believe our teams don't only have the students cheering them on but everyone in the community.

3 College Junior

Academics: some aspects are better than others. Finding a preceptor for clinical has been stressful.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: There are not many set policies for students to follow.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Unfortunately, YSU is located in a high crime unsafe area.

Weather: Weather does not have much more of an effect here than if would at any other campus; sunny days are wonderful but walking through rain and snow can be rough.

Scholarships: My financial aid was exclusively FAFSA

Nightlife: I did not participate in nightlife

Greek Life: I was not a member of Greek life, but many of my friends were and had very good experiences.

Diversity: YSU while it's growing and expanding is still considered a local university so diversity there but not extreme. We still have people from lots of backgrounds but not at the numbers you might see at a larger institution.

Local Atmosphere: The University is located near downtown which has several restaurants and bars which is nice for nightlife; however there really isn't much else to do other than that unless you leave the area and head to Boardman or Austintown. Also the area around the University is not the safest once you leave campus. Also parking during the first couple weeks of the school year can be a nightmare, there aren't enough lots/decks to accommodate the growing attendance.

Recent Alumnus

Campus Housing: Did not live in campus housing

Many local high school students do not bother applying to YSU because they consider it a second-rate college that's too close to home. These students do not know what they are missing! College is only what the student makes of it, and YSU will fully satisfy students who put forth an effort into their college experience. Many current students find themselves pleasantly and unexpectedly surprised that they are actually enjoying their time on campus. As time passes, more and more people are recognizing that YSU is truly a great university.

The campus itself is pristine and gorgeous; the landscaping is well-done, and the architectural structures are being renovated to project a modern, artistic look. Walking to class on a sunny spring morning, students often find themselves stopping in wonder to gaze at the flowers and trees. A lovely atmosphere enhances the students' love for the institution and even the subject matter in classes. An important advantage for YSU's students is the high quality of their instructors and professors. Most of the professors, staff, and assistants are extremely helpful, challenging, and engaging. Some benefits include networking with professionals in various venues, developing competitive skills, and utilizing wonderful hands-on experiences in the field. YSU provides its graduates with running leaps into the future for a price that few other schools can match.
