College Junior

Campus Strictness: Not sure if a good rating means the school is less or more strict...

Local Atmosphere: New Haven has everything you really need to have a good time. But it's not New York....you'll eventually find yourself going to the same places every time. NYC and Boston are close by though, so it's easy to get out of New Haven.

Computers: I've never had trouble finding an open computer in the labs or the libraries. You could get away with not having a laptop, but I think it'd be very annoying to be stuck in the labs/libraries to do all your work since everything requires working online or on a computer. No complaints about the internet, and the ITS people are very helpful. Cost of printing can add up quick though.

Parking: I've definitely found my car to be useful, especially for grocery store trips. Parking on the street can add up, and they hand out tickets pretty diligently.

Transportation: Free shuttle takes you almost everywhere you need to go. It doesn't always keep to schedule though, and on weekends they cut down on the number of buses quite a bit.

Weather: Snow can be pretty bad, and Yale doesn't believe weather should get in the way of learning.

Diversity: I feel that Yale is very diverse when it comes to ethnic and racial backgrounds, I'm always meeting people from different countries and experiences.

I would hesitate to say that there's as much diversity in economic background, most students come from families with comfortable incomes. That's not to say there aren't a few outliers.

Health & Safety: New Haven is like any other city, it has its not so pretty side. But I think Yale does a great job of taking care of it's students. The free door to door shuttle is a wonderful service, and I use it all the time. It's not perfect I'll admit, but it gets the job done. I've always felt safe and comfortable going out and coming home late knowing I have the shuttle to pick me up. On campus I feel very safe at all times.

Yale is, in every sense of the word, an incredible place. Students love the faculty, the classes, and the opportunities, not only because they are among the best in the world, but because they are highly accessible and undergraduate-focused. Yale is a place where academic theory blossoms into reality and where experiences exist that can't be found anywhere else in the world. It is a great privilege for students to continually study under the most knowledgeable people in their fields, from Nobel Laureates to international statesmen. Even though the Yale experience can be rigorous and demanding, most students wouldn't trade their years here for anything.

Yale prepares its students to meet the world with energy and knowledge. Its liberal arts education teaches students to think, to analyze, to question, and to consider. Yale graduates can do nearly anything they want, from working with Goldman and Sachs to obtaining a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology. Essentially, Yale successfully prepares its students for the pursuit of their passions in any area of life.

What ultimately sets Yale apart is the people that comprise its community. Yalies (students, faculty, and staff) are dynamic, fascinating people who continually surprise each other with their passions, their opinions, and their enthusiasm. Every student has a unique story to tell and interests to pursue. Yale is amazing because it gathers these diverse and remarkable individuals together for the same ultimate purpose: to learn, to grow, to thrive, and to discover themselves.
