Nightlife: Yale parties generally suck, unless you know the people throwing them. I've only been clubbing once (Alchemy) but I had a good time there.

Niche User

Greek Life: There's not really a Greek life at Yale. Social activities mostly center around clubs and residential colleges.

Niche User

Greek Life: We have fraternities and some sororities, but most of the time, you probably wouldn't even know they existed. They do throw popular parties at their houses, though some don't have houses. There's so much to do on and off campus that Greek life is insignificant. In fact, I think that the a cappella scene sort of replaces that. If you're looking for parties, there are plenty of parties that are advertised by signs or by e-mail that are not Greek. Social life is really what you make of it.

Greek Life: Sororities are almost nonexistent; you hardly know anyone in one. As for frats, they are bigger if you want them to be. There are maybe four houses that consistently throw parties, but it tends to be the same crowd at these parties. If it's your thing, it's really cool; if not, there is plenty more to do around here.

Greek Life: The Greek system is kind of small and does not dominate the social scene. I am actually in a sorority, but it is very low-key and just another social outlet. It's nice, though, since everyone is very supportive and fun. The fraternities are mostly associated with certain sports. DKE is mostly football and baseball players. There is always a frat party on Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays, and sometimes they have big parties with themes and fun drinks.

Niche User

Greek Life: I have no idea. I've never been even remotely interested in this. I guess that if someone cares about it, it would govern their social experience. But I've always been oblivious and happy.

Niche User

Greek Life: Greek life does not dominate the social scene; it is a minority, although you can find Greeks if you look. It took me until my senior year to make a friend who happened to be into the Greek scene and attend a few parties. There's definitely no pressure to be a part of that, although there are some nice sorority and fraternity houses near campus.

Niche User

Greek Life: Greek life really isn't that big here. There are a bunch of sororities and fraternities, but there's other stuff to do. They do throw a bunch of parties, and one frat has a weekly party-this drinking thing-and another is known for Tang, its annual drinking competition. Everyone loves it.

Niche User

Greek Life: Frats are bigger than sororities, but neither is very big. They definitely don't dominate the social scene, but they are there for those who want them. We also have lots of a cappella groups, which become little frats and sororities of their own, but it's not really the same thing.

Niche User

Greek Life: Being in a sorority, I can say that Greek life is a big part of social life, although it's really only in terms of fraternities since they throw a lot of the good parties.'

Greek Life: It's a freaking joke. Next question.

Greek Life: Greek life doesn't determine the social scene even a little bit. I couldn't even name all of the `active' sororities and fraternities on campus. Only a few events that are frat- sponsored get any publicity on campus.

Greek Life: I couldn't tell you what frats we have to save my life. And I don't know a single girl in a sorority.

Drug Safety: I know people who smoke marijuana, but I can't comment on anything harder than that. The drug scene is not very big around here.

Niche User

Drug Safety: Some kids smoke pot, but there are no hard drugs that I've seen.

Niche User

Drug Safety: I'm not a part of it, so I don't know anything about it. The pot smokers have to get their pot somewhere, but I don't know where. They get it somehow, so it must exist.

Niche User

Drug Safety: The drug scene isn't huge, but you've definitely got your groups of stoners and druggies. I feel like few people do things beyond smoking weed, though. I know some people who do coke occasionally, but that's all I know.

Niche User

Drug Safety: If you want it, it's there. If you don't want it, no one makes you do it.

Drug Safety: There's not much of a drug scene that I know of. The drug of choice seems to be alcohol.

Drug Safety: Pot is easy to get and easy to smoke. That's about my level of involvement in the drug scene-I don't know about anything else.

Drug Safety: I guess as in any place, if you're looking for them, you'll find them. I've never been pressured or exposed to them.

Niche User

Drug Safety: Some people at Yale use drugs. I'm just guessing here, but I think most Yale students either have never used drugs or have used pot socially a few times. There are some more serious drug-users, of course. But even among those, I think you often find very serious students who do great academic work and contribute to the community here. I think the quality of the experience you have here has very little to do with whether or not you choose to use drugs.

Guys & Girls: Guys are cool. Some are hot. Some are gay. Some are taken. Some suck. Girls are cool, if you find the right ones.

Guys & Girls: The guys are hot. If anyone says they aren't, they haven't opened their eyes or don't go out to the right places or something. Plus, they are smart and usually dress really well. It's a good deal.

Guys & Girls: The guys are very nice-chivalrous, too. People hold the door for each other all the time! And when I started doing that in other places, people sort of stared at me. There are many hot guys, but sometimes I have to make sure they're straight first. The gay/lesbian/bi/trans scene is out there and open. The girls are also very nice. Are girls hot? I wouldn't really know; my friends who are lesbians are happy here. I think the people here are the friendliest, most amazingly smart and modest people ever. I think we converted a pre-frosh into coming to Yale with just how great and friendly our people are!

Yale is, in every sense of the word, an incredible place. Students love the faculty, the classes, and the opportunities, not only because they are among the best in the world, but because they are highly accessible and undergraduate-focused. Yale is a place where academic theory blossoms into reality and where experiences exist that can't be found anywhere else in the world. It is a great privilege for students to continually study under the most knowledgeable people in their fields, from Nobel Laureates to international statesmen. Even though the Yale experience can be rigorous and demanding, most students wouldn't trade their years here for anything.

Yale prepares its students to meet the world with energy and knowledge. Its liberal arts education teaches students to think, to analyze, to question, and to consider. Yale graduates can do nearly anything they want, from working with Goldman and Sachs to obtaining a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology. Essentially, Yale successfully prepares its students for the pursuit of their passions in any area of life.

What ultimately sets Yale apart is the people that comprise its community. Yalies (students, faculty, and staff) are dynamic, fascinating people who continually surprise each other with their passions, their opinions, and their enthusiasm. Every student has a unique story to tell and interests to pursue. Yale is amazing because it gathers these diverse and remarkable individuals together for the same ultimate purpose: to learn, to grow, to thrive, and to discover themselves.
