Local Atmosphere: The town that Wright State is located in has things to do, but they soon become very repetitive. It's located right beside two fairly large malls. This provides something to do, but something like window shopping can easily become repetitive and even boring. There are movie theaters around the area too, but is pricey for the typically poor college student. It would be nice if Beavercreek had more free/cheap things to do, like having a park or rec center. However, one thing that isn't lacking is the attitude that people have towards college students. I feel like the local area is extremely supportive of the college and the people that attend. In the year that I've been there, I have not once felt any kind of hostility or negativity directed towards me.

Campus Housing: I live in the Honors Dorm and I have to say that it has been one of the best experiences of my life. Through the dorms, I've met some of the most genuine people that I feel I will ever meet. I also feel that the community encourages you to talk and have a good time, while maintaining good grades. The Honors Dorm is also very convenient due to it having a convenience store and a little cafe attached. This makes it possible to have a meal without having to leave the comfort of your dorm building. The housing process was also very easy and simple. I've had no problems both times that I've applied for housing. It's also nice to have a number for maintenance if anything in my room were to break.

Off-Campus Dining: The area around Wright State is full of restaurants to eat at. There are plenty of fast food options, like McDonald's and Taco Bell, and plenty of dine-in options, like Bob Evans and Buffalo Wild Wings. Typically the food quality is also fantastic, only lacking in certain places. The cost is average, with an even amount of high and low cost eateries. Even the ethnic options aren't bad for there are Mexican, Chinese, and even Indian places to eat. One thing that is lacking is student discounts. I honestly can't think of one place that has a really good student discount. It would also be nice if there was more than just one place that took our dining dollars that we may or may not have left over at the end of the semester.

Transportation: Wright State has plenty of parking spots for drivers, both commuter and residential. This makes getting where you need to go extremely easy on everyone. They also have shuttles that will transport you across campus and even to the Nutter Center if needed. However the shuttles stop after 7 PM, which can be very inconvenient, especially if you have night classes. I feel a lot could be improved about the transportation options.

Diversity: I personally feel that Wright State has a very diverse campus. I constantly run into students who come from not only different parts of the U.S., but students who come from different parts of the world. I love getting the chance to see how other parts of the world interact and shape a person. I also believe that Wright State has a very diverse student body in regards to sexual orientation. I've met more members of the LGBT community in my one year at Wright State than I did in the years before I attended. I love hearing how they deal with all the hate and laws against them. It's also given me a chance to really advocate for them to have total societal equality. I've also come into contact with a lot of religious diversity. I see many female students who cover themselves because of being Muslim or Islamic. It's given me a chance to learn more about how other people think in regards to faith.

Academics: I love being an English major. Just when I thought I knew everything there was to know, Wright State shows me that there is no such thing as knowing it all. I believe the classes offered are some of the best. I learn a lot and the faculty seems well informed. I'm not far enough along in my major to really here about internships/job opportunities, but if what I've heard can be trusted then those are plentiful as well.

Academics: From what I've seen so far, the professors at Wright State are typically good. In my two semesters there, I can't say that I've had a truly bad professor. They seem to be passionate about what they do and on top of the latest news or info regarding their class. The curriculum is very well set up too, although the general education courses are more of hassle than anything. The registration process is also really simple, which is helpful when signing up for classes. Overall the Wright State experience is a great one.

Athletics: The only sport that anyone on Wright State seems to care about is basketball. Pretty much every other team, club or not, gets overshadowed by this. That's not to say that the basketball games aren't great, because they are. There seems to be a lot of school spirit and the team does fairly well. The Nutter Center is also a great venue with plenty of seating. It would just be nice if the other sports, like swimming and tennis, got a lot of attention.

Health & Safety: I feel that the Wright State campus is safe most of the time, but it seems like an awful lot of muggings/robberies happen. I feel that this really wouldn't be a problem if the campus police had more of a presence and came off as more serious. I remember watching them let a drunk student off, in my dorm room, with just a warning. He didn't seem to get into any kind of trouble at all. Even if I walk with people, I don't feel very safe walking around at night. I think this needs to be fixed before someone actually gets seriously hurt.

Majors: I love my major. The classes are interesting and fun. All the faculty seem genuinely concerned about your well-being and your schoolwork. I had no problem being directly admitted into my chosen college. It's just been a great experience overall. So far the only difficulty I've had to overcome is balancing my schoolwork with having a social life. Other than that, I love the school and have no problems. The most important criteria for admission are keeping your grades up and making sure that you are a truly well-rounded student. I personally don't feel that the application process is abnormal in any way. My tip for admission would be to do well in all your course and to take courses to challenge yourself, like honors and AP.
