Computers: Computers were definitely available at school, but almost every I knew used their own laptop. School computers were good to use for running heavier programs like Stata for economics.

4 College Junior

Computers: Lots of solid computers to use, labs are never too crowded. You get plenty of free printing. The wireless network is okay -- it can be slow or unresponsive at times.

3 College Freshman

Computers: There is no lack of school provided computers and technology on campus. Wifi can be spotty and sometimes shuts down randomly which can be a pain when streaming movies or downloading files for classes.

4 College Freshman

Computers: You will always be able to find a free computer at Williams because there are plenty of labs and free computers. The infrastructure of computers is also quite good, and the Office of Information Technology is effective. However, the network, Purple Air, is notorious for its lack of speed and patchiness in coverage, especially during crunch time.

It’s wonderful to have your own computer at Williams, but it is far from necessary because there are so many labs, and they are never full. Wi-Fi is available everywhere in Williamstown through the school network, including the coffee shop and all the little corners of campus.

The OIT (Office of Information Technology) in Jesup is there to fix any problems that students encounter with computers, from teaching them to use Photoshop to fixing a hard drive. OIT regularly hosts free classes so students can learn new and interesting computer programs to enhance their computer experiences. The OIT equipment loan center allows students to rent every kind of equipment imaginable, including expensive SLR cameras or video cameras and microphones.
