College Sophomore

Majors: I haven't applied for internships through the school. This is another area I wouldn't be of much help in.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Depending on how familiar you are with the area, you may or may not find a great place to eat. Montclair has diverse options ethnically and according to health preferences. Wayne also has plenty of places, but less diversity. Paterson has plenty of options, and diversity and options but parking sucks and there are plenty of deathtrap potholes.

1 College Sophomore

Parking: WARNING IF YOU ARE COMMUTING AND NEED TO GET TO CLASS ON TIME SHOW UP EARLY.
Parking in the main lots fills up quickly and all other lots are OBNOXIOUSLY FAR.

Athletics: The gym is top notch. Our school sports teams suck and so most of the people in the gym are just going there to avoid having to pay for a membership anywhere else. Its great because its clean, they have workout rooms and equipment rooms and there are two facilities. Inter murals are pretty popular, everyone participates.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: If you eat at Wayne Hall, you WILL have to poop afterwords. Its a given. Mostly, its terrible, but there are plenty of good days and you will acquire a taste for it. They try to have fun themed nights. Its nothing compared to mama's cooking but it'll do.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The campus police are very strict about drinking and drug use, and also keeping parking regulated. They try to keep certain lots available for commuter students during the week. If pot or alcohol is reported by advisors, they will raid your room. Even so, they're pretty unreliable when you need them to do anything else. They try, I guess. As far as allowing people to stay overnight, having a guest is a difficult task. you have to fill out overnight sheets with a load of information, and hand it in by 9 pm. So, no spontaneous sleepovers or one night stands. If you try to sneak in, campus police will bust you, and ban you from the building, so don't do that.

On the upside, its pretty easy to start a club or organization, you have to attend presidents meetings and provide a mission statement and the university will give you money for stuff.

Drug Safety: They're pretty strict about drugs and drinking on campus. Its college, people are going to experiment regardless of the amount of work they need to do, or what their parents think. Pot is the most popular, a large portion of the students smoke, although I can't be sure how many. As far as any hard drugs are concerned, its never really obvious who's taking what. In the spring, lots of students take acid. The weather brings out the best in people.

Nightlife: I've only gone out once to a club near campus. It was a frat party held at Zana Lounge in Paterson. There were several fights that spilled out onto the street and SIX police cars showed up to mace people off of each other. It was awful. Especially after paying 15 dollars to get in. I prefer intimate gatherings, some of the frat and sport houses host parties and those are alright. If you're going out for the night, stay away from paterson. Going into the city is the best, but transpiration is costly and trains stop running at 1:20 AM so, take the PATH or have a place to stay for the night.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Its fairly easy to get around campus, the university shuttle runs every 15 minutes until pretty late in the evening and public transit buses stop right in front of the main campus. Buses to Port Authority run every hour even on sundays and there are several other buses that take you into the surrounding areas or to nearby transit centers. Cabs can be unreliable.
MSU train station has a cheap park and ride (it costs about 3 dollars per day) even though they don't run on the weekends.
Harrison is the nearest PATH station.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: when i lived on campus cops were strict with people smoking weed in the dorms many of my friends got kicked off campus but alot of kids smoke. at the same time its easily avoided

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Living in the Honors dorms has a price. We are meant to be the "role" models so its very strict on us.

Nightlife: Going to a frat party is great but it doesn't happen every weekend since the fact that freshmen can't have cars on caps, it restricts the transportation to these parties.

Computers: Having wireless on campus is great since my generation is all about computers and "Appel". Although the speed and connection stability of the wireless isn't that great.
