2 College Freshman

Academics: Registering and transferring process is bad

4 College Freshman

Majors: Professor Van Osbree is by far the best professor

College Freshman

Diversity: There is a lot of diversity.

2 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I have no friends cause they don't accept me because I don't drink. The few friends I have live nearby so they go home almost every other day. The dorm is close to class which is nice.

College Freshman

Greek Life: We have societys. I don't consider that Greek Life

2 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I was pressured by my team to drink so I quit. Other reasons were involved, but I was not going to be pressured into drinking. The reason I go home every weekend is because no one is on campus. Everyone is partying and I don't want to be involved with that.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I don't like the CI so i usually order dominos twice a week. It's expensive and I wish more places around campus would deliver. California Grille is expensive sometimes but the pasta is good. I also go to KFC and In N Out and Panera. KFC is the only one that is close. Nothing is really walking distance other than California Grille.

Health & Safety: Campus safety is always there, however it sometimes takes them awhile to get there. I feel safe on campus and leave my door unlocked when I go to the bathroom, but I would never leave my door unlocked if I am going to be gone for more than 5 minutes.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I live on campus and I go home every single weekend. I drive about 2 hours every Friday and Sunday so I am not stuck on campus.

2 College Freshman

Parking: The parking here is terrible

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: I was rewarded great aid for my freshman year. However, I'm in the midst of figuring out what to pay for next year, and the school is being vague and has not gotten back to my mother on how much money she owes them.

Health & Safety: Whittier is a bit of a sketchy place. I was walking through Uptown one evening with some friends and we discovered that there had been a shooting that very evening. We booked it back to campus. I feel pretty safe walking through campus at night, but it IS easy for non-students to get onto campus. Sexual assualt is not handled properly here.

The health center is a joke. The people there don't know what they're doing - they're better suited for elementary schools or the like. I was having terrible abdominal pain one morning and the health center didn't do anything for me - they just sent me directly to the hospital. Apparently that's a common action for them.

Parking: Permit costs are INSANE, which is pretty bad because in order to go anywhere outside of campus (minus Uptown Whittier, which is walkable) you need a car.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: I'm not really involved in the nightlife, but I go to dances occasionally. There's always a party somewhere on the weekend if you're looking for one, and I've been told that The Bottle Room in Uptown Whittier is a really good bar.

College Freshman

Athletics: I'm not involved in sports, and frankly couldn't care less about this.

College Freshman

Majors: I haven't had/looked into an internship yet since it's only my first year.

4 College Freshman

Majors: The theatre teachers are lovely, but I've been told that there is a sense of favoritism in this department. I think this department is what you make of it, though. If you choose to work hard and push yourself, you will be rewarded.

5 College Freshman

Weather: It's southern California - the weather is pretty much always really nice.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Most of the dorrms are in pretty good condition. They're cleaned regularly, which is nice. Occasionally there will be an issue with plumbing, but that's usually the fault of a student. There is one dorm which does not have ventilated restrooms, thus promoting the growth of black mold. I can think of 3 cases in which people who lived in these dorms were diagnosed with cancer. I don't know if this is coincidental or not.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: We don't have Greek life at Whittier; instead, we have "societies," which are essentially the same things as fraternities/sororities. I'd say there's a pretty even split between those involved in societies and those not involved. Each society has a different reputation - some are viewed more positively than others - but there's a mixed bag of people in each. Societies are responsible for hosting almost all of the social events, and they're very prominent on campus.
