Campus Dining: The food is delicious and healthy, and there is always a variety.

4 College Junior

Campus Dining: Food is very abundant and great quality! Lots of choices at different times of the day.

Campus Dining: There are three main dining halls as well as a cafeteria in Reid Campus Center. Two of the dining halls serve the same/similar dishes but between the three you can almost always find something you like since each has ~3 options for every meal. Reid is also a popular option as well because it is open later and has more options. Reid and the cafe in the library (open 8 pm-1 am) both use flex spending.

Campus Dining: Healthy option, could have more hours. Liked the midnight breakfast during finals.

Campus Dining: The places around campus are surprisingly good for college dining halls. They offer a lot of healthy choices along with a vegetarian and vegan option at every meal. The only negative is that sometimes breakfast can get old but they do offer a freshly prepared egg line which sometimes can get crowded but worth it.

Like most food made in large quantities, Whitman’s food service has its moments of unusual, unidentifiable culinary intrigue, though for the most part, the food is delicious. Whitman offers three dining halls—Prentiss, Jewett, and Lyman—all of which are open at least five days a week. In addition to these, Whitman also offers meals from Café 66, located in Reid Campus Center. This café includes a grill, pizza oven, and a weekly option, called Fire and Spice, which is prepared in a wok and can range from stir-fry to fajitas. Since many Whitman students are health conscious, the dining halls make it convenient to eat healthily. Furthermore, there’s a large conglomerate of vegetarian and vegan Whitties, so the dining halls always make an effort to provide for these students. In fact, if students have any special dietary requirements, Whitman is very good about ensuring that these are met. They also make an effort to meet students’ demands for local, organic, and fair-trade ingredients.

Although meal plans tend to be expensive and are required for all freshmen and most sophomores, students pay for what they get—good food at a high price. Many students purchase plans with too many meals, but the most savvy purchase is a combination plan of meals and “Flex Dollars,” which allow students to charge items from the various coffee carts around campus, Café 66, and the dining halls. Students occasionally give the on-campus food a rough review, but only because they haven’t considered the reality that university students face. All in all, Whitman students are some of the best-fed.
