4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life isn't overly prevalent on campus, but everyone is pretty aware of it for the most part. Those who are involved love it, those who don't aren't necessarily bothered by it.

2 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life is overrated. No one respects Greeks, to many of them get into trouble. They put up stereotypes with makes others want to avoid them.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: They have many different organizations, Im not that big on greek life but they don't treat any other person differently if your not in it.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: Not a member of Greek life, but I know multiple people who are and it's not a big thing on campus. Greek students and non-Greek students get along just fine (a couple of my favorite people that I've met so far have been members of sororities).

5 College Freshman

Greek Life: I love our Greek Life. It is very diverse,

The majority of students at Western are indifferent towards Greek life. In general, Greeks are not viewed as snobby or overly cliquey. Likewise, they are not recognized for doing prodigious things for the community. Greek organizations tend to become more visible during rush times, and then dwindle soon afterward. Although the social scene is not dominated by Greek organizations, they are a noticeable presence. Some of the biggest parties on campus are held at fraternity houses, but they are not at all exclusive and anyone can attend. In addition, there are parties just as big at non-Greek houses, and the social scene depends on clubs and bars as well. Greek housing is nice for the most part, but space is limited. On many occasions, students do not live in their Greek organization’s house. Since Greek life is not extremely popular, it isn’t very competitive either. Students agree that getting into a social fraternity or sorority is easy. Some professional fraternities are slightly more selective, but they are by no means exclusive.

Socially, the Greek organizations moderately influence nightlife. However, it is not necessary to be a member, or even know a member, to attend parties. Parties are clearly the paramount reason students join fraternities and sororities. Besides partying, not much goes on in terms of social events. Fundraisers are rare, which is likely due to Western’s strict fundraising rules. During rush, at the beginning of each semester, Greek organizations will host interest parties. Some Greek housing is nice, but much of it is inconveniently located far away from campus. The relatively small Greek life at Western provides all students with the chance to join a fraternity or sorority, but may leave some people wishing that Greek life played a bigger role on campus.
