Local Atmosphere: If you like the outdoors, there is a lot to do. Otherwise, you will need to travel a fair distance for attractions and activities.

Campus Housing: This is the 3rd school I have attended. They have the best food of the 3. Dorms could use some updating and more availability. The housing process is difficult for Junior and Seniors. The most difficult process and lack of space of the 3. Cost of attendance is average. Very pleased with my classes and professors in my department. Would prefer that classes were more streamlined to degree instead of requiring classes that are really not necessary. But that is everywhere you go.

Greek Life: No special significance to Greek life.

Campus Strictness: Campus strictness is as it should be expected. Everyone is expected to attend class and use sensible and responsible behavior in all aspects of student life.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I have had no problems.

Nightlife: There is many things to do on campus to keep students active and out of trouble.

Campus Dining: Western has a large variety when it comes to meal plans in order to ensure students get what they want. They even offer a meal plan for students who commute back and forth from school. My favorite place to eat on campus was at Einstein's Bagel mainly because it is a great place to eat breakfast. The dining hall offers a wide variety of options for students and work with students to maintain a healthy diet. Western's dining hall website offers a link to where you can see the nutritional value of everything on the menu that day which was really helpful to me. Late night dining was always really fun and I loved going to get breakfast food at two in the morning. The dining staff does a great job and campus dining at Western was a good experience.

Diversity: Western has a ton of diversity for such a small campus which was a pleasant surprise for me. There are tons of religious clubs from Christian to Wiccan which students can be involved in. Western has a strong international student population and once a year the school host an event which allows all the students to share their culture's food, music, dress, and language. The school does a great job at staying affordable and works to bring in low income students through scholarships and many on campus job options. Western has many political clubs and they will often set up booths to help students figure out how to register to vote. The LGBT club at our school is prominent and once a year they host a coming out day which provides a safe place for students to come out and not be worried about issues such as bullies.

Nightlife: Honestly, most of the parties at Western are your stereotypical fraternity house parties. While some can be incredibly fun, many of them are just okay. There are a couple of bars that are located near Western but if you want to go to a good bar or club than go to Ashville. Ashville is about a thirty minute drive from campus and they have great bars and dance clubs. The party scene does not have a negative or positive impact on student experience. If students wish to have a great time while at a party just be smart and have fun without the regrets.

Facilities: Student life at Western Carolina is great and my first year on campus was extremely enjoyable. There was always something for me to do on the weekends mainly because the school takes the initiative to get all the students involved on campus. One of my favorite activities I participated in was the Tuck River Clean Up. It is an annual tradition that they do at Western and it was not only eco-friendly but it was a blast. Basically what we did was white water rafted down the Tuck River, located near campus, and picked up liter. The campus itself is gorgeous because it is located in the heart of the mountains and it is honestly one of the prettiest campuses I have ever been to. Since Western is in the mountains, Base Camp is a great group to get involved with and they organize all of the outdoor adventures. For example, I went on their ski trip this past February and it was only $15 for my lift ticket, rentals, and transportation. Not only does Western have a great deal of activities to do off campus, but there are so many things to do on campus. The student center every weekend always shows movies and it is $2 for movie, drink, and popcorn. Our gym has the tallest rock climbing wall in the NC system and is a great place to work out and has a convenient indoor track. At Western, we have the best school librarians who are not only helpful but really care about the students. The week before exams, the library stays open twenty-four hours and for the students who pull an all nighter, the librarians get there early to pass out donuts and coffee. Western is a great place to go to college not only for the scenery, but also for the individuals who work hard to ensure every student achieves their goals while making memories they will carry with them a life time.

Campus Housing: Older buildings have poor ac/heating and tend to be a little more worn down. Bucanan has the biggest rooms. Blue Ridge and Balsam are the newest so have the best amenities and location.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Dont be stupid, Dont leave valuables in the open, and you'll be fine.

Greek Life: Lots of parties. A few greeks actually participate in campus life. We do have alot of school oriented greeks too. Psychology frat, honors frat, music frat, etc

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: Average food, few chain restaurants that are more expensive like starbucks, mcallisters, chickfila, and a food court like area. Unlimited dining upstairs is the best value but it's hit or miss. when it's close to breaks eat at the more expensive places because the dining hall is probably low on (good) food

Facilities: WCU has updated their facilities alot in the last couple years and opened a new EMergency Medical Sciences building. THey continue to expand and recreate our environment. Lots of events on campus for everyone! Movies, lectures, game nights, lawn activities.

5 College Junior

Diversity: I've ran into Russians, Saudis, Argentinians, and Irishmen. I know many LGBT members that can relate on many levels with anyone struggling in their community and they are very open and active on campus. There is a very small religious community but they keep to themselves and arent overly aggressive. Politics arent really big on campus but they too are active on campus.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Alot of hippies and greek life stand out as your stereotypes. WCU is a party school so alot of the students like to go out and drink or party but there are also alot of outdoorsy types. Generally, we're a tshirt and jeans kind of school.

4 College Junior

Majors: I;m currently an online student. What I do know from my previous years at WCU is they always have tons of opportunities to further your education and get more help. Most instructors are incredible but some clearly rely on their tenure.

College Junior

Majors: Not familiar with any internships

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Everyone is usually helpful and nice. But they will drop you immediately if you dont make payments. Even if financial aid being late is to blame.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Great outdoor town. If you're looking for convenience to all city life, not the place for you. Cullowhee is about an hour from asheville and a little more from Gatlinburg. So, if you dont mind a drive there is still plenty for you to do. Locally there are alot of hiking trails, local shops, rafting, and many other features that you'd expect from the mountains.

4 College Junior

Athletics: There is a large group or intramural sports including a sports club. There are intramural events every semester for student formed teams and our sports clubs have their own practice times and facilities. Our varsity teams are ok. Usually the basketball and baseball outshine our football team. Even more so, our Marching Band outshines everyone.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Once you find your favorite restaurants (other than fast food), it starts to get a bit repetitious. Good variety of fast food, lots of bars and pubs to choose from, and variety of types of food like chinese, japanese, mexican, and cuban. There are a hand full of restaurants that have student discounts and alot have specials every day.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek Life at Western is very popular. They always doing something outside or hosting something.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: It is very competitive like I have said before. They want the best. It's not something you just sign up for, you actually have to work for it.
