Overall Experience: West Virginia University is steeped in the culture of the Mountain State. The people here are friendly and welcoming, and once you are a Mountaineer, you'll always be a Mountaineer. West Virginians are quick to embrace visitors, and they always make you feel like part of the family. WVU has an environment of uniquely bonded people; through sporting events, cultural events, and the appreciation of the beautiful natural scenery, the town is a wonderful place to live. The university is recognized nation-wide as an outstanding academic school, and a degree from WVU will bring many opportunities.

Local Atmosphere: There are many beautiful natural areas in Morgantown. The Rail Trail, a former railroad converted to a pedestrian run/walk and cycling pathway, runs along the Monongalia river and is a great place to exercise or just enjoy nature. Also, the WVU Arboretum offers many hiking trails throughout a wooded area, known for the many varieties of native and exotic trees. Cooper's Rock state park is a short drive from town, and has beautiful overlooks as well as scenic hiking trails and rock climbing areas. There are also many campgrounds and other natural areas within close proximity to WVU. It is a wonderful place to go to school if you enjoy being outside!

Athletics: Sports at WVU are insane, especially football and basketball. There is a lot of school spirit around campus every single day. There's not one day you'll walk around campus and not hear "lets go mountaineers." The facilities are in great condition. Almost every sport has a club team if you dont want to compete at the ncaa level. Sports are a lot of fun at WVU!

Majors: I Love CDFS – I love CDFS (Child Development & Family Studies). All the profefssors and instructors within the program are really nice and reliable. There are many opportunities you can do with this major so it's a wonderful major

Majors: English, Mixed Bag – The English program at WVU definitely had some great professors. I took courses all around the department, ranging from Creative Writing to British Literature and the professors were generally knowledgeable, helpful, and motivated. Of course, nothing is perfect. You'll get the occasional uppity prick that truly defines the stereotypical college English professor. Most of the other programs are the same.

Off-Campus Dining: Morgantown Dining – Restaurants are probably what WVU has the most of. The Union Square area, which is where many of the WVU dorms are located, has a lot of great places to eat. Republic is one of my favorites, it's a noodle shop. Zen Palate is also here; it's vegetarian but it's great. A lot of places are trendy but good. Oh, and Republic is cheap with moderate prices for drinks, too, by WVU standards

Academics: Knowledgeable and Accessible – Each of my professors have shown a great deal of interest and knowledge about the subject of study; he/she was readily available to assist with questions or concerns.

Off-Campus Dining: So Convenient! There are so many places to eat off-campus that are less than a five minute walk from campus. Take a day to just check out all the fun activities and food that High Street has to offer, at pretty low prices, and you will not regret it. Jimmy John's is always a fast, cheap option, and they're opened til 4 in the morning. Casa d'amici is also opened late, so whenever you get out of the club/ bar, there will be restaurants waiting for your patronage.

Weather: Who Knows! The weather in Morgantown can sometimes be really unpredictable, but one thing is always certain- it's almost impossible to go a week without rain! It may not rain for hours on end, but there will definitely be at least a shower or two within 7 days. Also, the winters can be really cold (but this past one was really moderate, so it's impossible to tell for the future.) However, when it is sunny and clear skies on the mountain, it's absolutely gorgeous.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: Depends on Your High School Performance. Once you're accepted into WVU, usually after your sophomore year, they have you apply for certain schools within the university. However, since my SAT scores were high enough, I will not have to apply to be in the School of Business and Economics once my sophomore year is over. I was "directly admitted" into the school. Working hard throughout high school can really pay off when you get into college!

Overall Experience: Had its ups and downs but I will never forget my first year at West Virginia University. I still find myself having flashbacks in my dreams. Student body truely is one BIG FAMILY united by sports, schools party rank, and the good ol' country roads..TAKE ME HOME

Guys & Girls: There's a lot of variety in the kids at West Virginia University. It's a very Diverse community which is what I like about it. It's not all the same type of people or all stereotypes. You meet tons of new people that may not be like you but you end up being friend with. Many people may think because it's West Virginia there's alot of "country people" or "hicks" but it isn't like that at all. I give the girls/guys at WVU an A.

Facilities: Always Something to Do – You should never be bored at West Virginia University. There's activities for nearly every interest and if you can't find what your looking for there's almost always something to spark your interest. It's easy enough to stay busy with your classes, and there's places all over for you to study! Weather the library is your thing, the mountainlair, food places, or just lounges around campus, if you need a spot to study, you can easily find one. There's plenty of places to eat no matter what you like. Downtown offers tons of places to shop, go out, and even find jobs. The rec center is the favorite of many, with hours that fit easily into your schedule. You can swim, play racket ball, workout on the numerous fitness machines, or take one of the many fitness classes! One of my favorite parts of the University is all the sporting events. The footballgames and basketball gams are some of our University's biggest and it really brings the student together. All over I would give West Virginia University nothing less than an A!

Facilities: Campus Life – I feel that all around my school has a great campus life. Our school is very spirited and I feel that, that brings kids from all types of plaes and interests together. There are activities avaliable for everyone, giving everyone a chance to be envolved as a mountaineer. Our campus also has tons of resources everywhere you look if you are struggling in a class or need help with anything. Along with a great school atmosphere it has a great atmosphere downtown and around Morgantown of things to do for nearly everyone. This gives everyone the break they need to continue to work hard in class.

Academics: You win some and you may lose some. The teachers at WVU are all pretty awesome. I've switchde my major a lot and have made some great contacts with them.

Transportation: They have many buses, but since the town is small there is a lot of traffic.

Campus Strictness: Not Strict – WVU is not a strict school especially in the part area. That may be because we are known as a party school but if campus police or whatnot see you drinking and you're underage they simple have you pour out the alcohol and let you go about your way. When it comes to games and tailgating no one every gets in trouble unless they cause trouble. Some way you could get away with murder at WVU and I could believe it. WVU is such a free and open school anyone can voice an opinion and not be told to hush up. The campus is not very strict and while that is a sort of good thing since college students are adult, it can be a bad especially when drinking is involved. The main reason students came under fire for the "I'm Schmacked" video was because it made news and brought out the true dis respectfulness the students deliver when they are drunk. I mean, the city bus a nights is known as the Drunk Bus because it's full of drunk people from high street going back to towers or whatnot. People do get underages but it's from the city police, not the campus police.

Facilities: Really Good – The MountainLair is a great place to sit and chill or eat. It convenient and basically the center of the downtown campus. I would only like to see more seating and more outlets. It's hard to do any type of laptop work because the outlets aren't conveniently placed and people have to step over the cords. But it is a nice place just to unwind at because it is such a relaxed environment.

1 College Sophomore

Scholarships: When talking with financial aid I have never gotten good service. I'm always on hold, the people are always rude, you have to be transferred 101 times; it's just a hassle. I was told I owed $200. I paid that then I apparently owed another $300 that they "miscalculated". Stuff like that happens all the time. You eventually get your question or problem solved but be prepared to put a good half hour to hour of phone time or office time into it.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Not Too Bad – The dorms are kind of give and take. Some need more cleaning, some need updated, some don't have a/c, some are just fine. I wouldn't say any of them are nasty. For example. Towers hold like 2,000 students and is one of the main focus areas of WVU for tours or events. This 4 building complex sees a lot of traffic and it is hard for the janitors to always keep up. The elevators need updated in Braxton tower and Lion tower. It simply just depends.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: It's Okay – WVU is great for school spirit! However, they focus too much on sports and no enough on academics. They have raised tuition twice in the past year for sports and pay raises. Nothing for academics especially since the professors aren't exactly "A" material.

3 College Senior

Weather: It's WV – Being from WV, I love the weather. It's the best of all four seasons. We have snow, 90+ summers, beautiful green springs, and colorful falls. You can't ask for anything more.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: Process Is Smooth – WVU will do what they can for you, but if you're willing to put in the time you can get a lot more. It's really up to you.

Overall, students have made it pretty clear that they are really enjoying their time at WVU. Looking back through this book, it can be seen that WVU has garnered many high grades for subjects such as social scene, academics, and athletics. It is clear that there are many things the school excels in. The aforementioned are huge parts of campus life at WVU, and the students have said nothing but good things about them. While there were many high grades, there were a few grades that show the University could still improve in certain areas. It is clear that the campus dining services are not doing a great job pleasing the students, nor is the parking situation on campus. Considering these are two pretty important things on a college campus, the University should quickly take the right steps to move those two issues into a positive direction.

The attitude at WVU seems pretty split between academics and social events. While most students attend WVU with the expectation of a great education, there are a select few who come to WVU because of the potential party scene. Either way, WVU offers something for each side. With each incoming class comes the promise to improve upon faults and provide students with the best possible experience and education. The athletics program is on the rise and on the verge of gaining national prominence. The academic programs are showing promise as more WVU graduates are gaining recognition for their accomplishments. WVU is a student-oriented university, and should be considered by incoming freshmen who want to be treated to a great college education and experience.
