Academics: Being in the School of Nursing my workload is outrageous. I know that I am in a health science major and that it comes along with my career path that I have chosen. My classes are taught by very knowledgeable professors and I feel that they will give me all the information I need to be prepared in the real world after college.

Scholarships: I have been searching for months now for any financial help I can get through scholarships. WVU was helpful with showing me websites to search through.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: I love Morgantown. It is big enough that you can always have something to do or somewhere to go, but it is small enough that you feel like you know enough people around you. There are plenty of good places to eat, and there is a variety of everything here.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: I have never felt in danger or anything like that on campus. There are university police all around, and the buildings are close enough that if you are in distress, someone can be there to help you.

3 College Junior

Majors: I am in the Engineering Program, and as long as you do the work and go to class, you should be able to get the material. If you struggle, there is tutoring readily available for your convenience. You just have to make sure you take the time out of your day as well to study on your own.

Scholarships: The financial aid can be difficult to attain because there are over 30,000 students attending WVU

Greek Life: I am not involved in Greek life but I know alot of people that are and they love it!

Athletics: Our students have such great school spirit and pride. The athletic events are a competition to get tickets for.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking is good, but we could use some more parking garages for visitors!

Campus Strictness: The campus and town police do everything that they can in order to keep students safe, but they also allow students to have a good time. At football tailgates, they fully understand that drinking and other activities will be happening, so they stand around at every corner just to make sure that students are safe and well.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Many places to eat on campus. Near the end of the year the meals became repetitive.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Many apartments off campus as on campus housing is usually reserved for freshman.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: Students from all backgrounds, religions, ethnicity.

Transportation: A car is the best option. There's a bus service available to students but if you don't live near a pickup, it's inconvenient. Also, this means planning routes between shuttles, which is time consuming. There is one taxi service in town, it is TERRIBLE and unreliable. There is a small airport in town for long distance travel.

Off-Campus Housing: There areTONS of options for off campus housing, on both campuses and the surrounding areas in town. However, the school doesn't do the best job at showcasing all these opportunities, so you have to find a place on your own. Parking is terrible, permits are expensive and spaces are limited. The town is safe, though. Good ratio of police to people, so not a lot of crime.

Greek Life: I am not part of Greek life but I know it has a huge effect on campus. We have a huge list of both fraternities and sororities that are all different and there is one to suit everyone. There is housing for Greeks both in the house itself as well as annex houses, however it can get really expensive. Greek life is not for everyone but the fraternities are very willing to interact with non-Greeks. Sororities are a little less willing and usually like to stay within the Greek life circle.

Parking: Parking at this school is awful! The permit costs are outrageous. I lived in a building that had 250 parking spots in front of the building and the cost for me to park my car there was over 400 dollars for the year. Most of the parking areas on the Evansdale Campus come with the regulation that your car has to be moved by 5PM on Fridays until 6AM on Sundays for football games. The cost is not any less because of this inconvenience and it is impossible to find somewhere else to park your car during this time without getting a parking ticket or your car towed. There isn't a huge need for a car on campus but it is definitely convenient to get to a lot of the chain restaurants, grocery stores, and big shopping centers.

Campus Strictness: West Virginia University has a reputation as being the top party school in the country. Recently both the campus police and the Morgantown Police have been cracking down more than usual. The tolerance in student housing however is more strict. On your first violation you have a meeting with the person in charge of your specific building and you have to complete a reflection paper and question as well as community service hours that depend on what rule you failed to comply to. You are also put on housing probation which means that if you have a second violation you can get kicked out of student housing. You will have to appeal to the board and get a petition signed if you plan on living in student housing for the next semester. There is plenty to do outside of student housing so save yourself the trouble and don't drink in your dorm room!

Local Atmosphere: People have false misconceptions about the state of West Virginia and the reputation of Morgantown only adds to that. However, Morgantown provides a safe atmosphere to enjoy the college experience. There are emergency call button centers at major locations such as on High Street where most of the nightlife, shopping, and restaurants are located, the Student Rec Center, bus stops, and along popular walking paths. The campus is well lit and there is always something to do whether you enjoy the party scene or not. A big hit at WVU is Coopers Rock which is a ten minute drive down highway 68 where you can hike to a point where you can see the Monogahela River as well as Pennsylvania and West Virginia. One thing that WVU is known for is our school spirit. Sporting events are a huge deal not only to students but to the residents of Morgantown and surrounding areas. "Townies" as we lovingly call them are full of WV spirit and are often seen tailgating and offering their hospitality to their fellow Mountaineers. I could not have picked a better school!

Overall, students have made it pretty clear that they are really enjoying their time at WVU. Looking back through this book, it can be seen that WVU has garnered many high grades for subjects such as social scene, academics, and athletics. It is clear that there are many things the school excels in. The aforementioned are huge parts of campus life at WVU, and the students have said nothing but good things about them. While there were many high grades, there were a few grades that show the University could still improve in certain areas. It is clear that the campus dining services are not doing a great job pleasing the students, nor is the parking situation on campus. Considering these are two pretty important things on a college campus, the University should quickly take the right steps to move those two issues into a positive direction.

The attitude at WVU seems pretty split between academics and social events. While most students attend WVU with the expectation of a great education, there are a select few who come to WVU because of the potential party scene. Either way, WVU offers something for each side. With each incoming class comes the promise to improve upon faults and provide students with the best possible experience and education. The athletics program is on the rise and on the verge of gaining national prominence. The academic programs are showing promise as more WVU graduates are gaining recognition for their accomplishments. WVU is a student-oriented university, and should be considered by incoming freshmen who want to be treated to a great college education and experience.
