Guys & Girls: People look and dress nice here. You have nothing to worry if that's what you care about, but since you're considering Wes you probably don't think that's the most important factor about the "guys & girls" category (ugh so heteronormative said the Wesleyan student about the gender binary). People are really nice here and it's very easy to be friends with people across the traditional boundaries of athlete, artist, scientist, international student, and whatever other categories people like to put themselves into.

Guys & Girls: Nearly everyone at Wesleyan is in shape and attractive. I'm dead serious. Visiting other campuses make me realize how good Wes has it. The campus is not as "hipster-ish" as most people think. Wes has done a good job of getting a bunch of individuals with different perspectives on life and I love that.

Guys & Girls: When I was at Wes it was pretty dominated by hippies and generally off the wall types, but by the time I left it had been pretty hipster-fied. If you love hipsters, it's a dream for you. If not....you might have slimmer pickings. I also generally feel like the women are much better looking and more interesting than the men.

Guys & Girls: The cute hipster girl is the type Wesleyan girl. The "unwashed" stereotype is for the most part, untrue.

While Wesleyan students are certainly not the tanned beach babes you might find at USC or Miami, they are not as unattractive and hairy as they are purported to be. Yes—"No-Shave November" is very big among girls and guys, and there are certainly some dirty hipsters who never wash their flannel, but on the whole, Wesleyan is actually a fairly attractive campus. Most people put effort into their appearance (clothing, hairstyle, general grooming, etc.), and while the outcome might be "weird," it is usually not super sloppy.

There is a prevalent hookup culture on campus, and casual sex is generally preferred over relationships. This free love is fueled by the rejection of gender roles that usually dictate relationships. A strong emphasis is put on safe and consensual sex, and there is a program called ASHA (AIDS and Sexual Health Awareness) that runs workshops dealing with these issues. Rape and sexual assault are taken very seriously by the administration.

Social Scene
As a rule, Wesleyan students are extremely extroverted-sometimes more than necessary. While the majority of Wes students probably did not sit at the popular lunch table in high school, rather than becoming self-conscious introverts, many students decide to blossom into cheerful, gregarious individuals in their college years. Rather than struggling to find someone to talk to at a party, most visiting students wonder how to get their companions to shut up. Wes students love to talk, play, wrestle, joke, laugh, and horse around with one another. It is not uncommon to see two friends tackling one another on Foss Hill or playing full-contact croquet on Andrus Field. Wesleyan students are mostly friendly and genuinely want everyone around them to be as excited about life as they are. Certain niches of the social scene do have an element of snobbery, however. The theater and visual art departments, in particular, are known for having one or two snooty members per clique. Eclectic, one of the houses on campus, is extremely exclusive and self-contained, and this sometimes leads people to see them as anti-social. These tend to be exceptions to the rule, however, as most groups and organizations are extremely accepting of others. At Wesleyan, you're going to make friends, whether you like it or not.
Hookups or Relationships?
Relationships at Wesleyan are as varied and colorful as the students themselves. While there is a small contingent of students in long-term relationships (who all get together to watch "How I Met Your Mother" on Monday nights), the rest of the campus ranges from consistently hooking up with one person to polyamory. Also, upperclassmen are known to prey on freshmen.
Dress Code
Because of the eccentric student body, on any given day, one can see anything from sweatpants to a pinstripe suit. Wesleyan students tend to love traditional hippy attire (flip-flops, hemp, and dreadlocks), traditional hipster attire (tight jeans, plaid shirts, and hair that obscures the eyes), or ensembles that look like the losing end of a fight with a thrift store (granny glasses a plus). The T-shirt advertising some obscure product or rock star is always a staple, and accessories may include anything from cowboy hats to costume jewelry. Above all, Wesleyan students tend to dress to their mood and personality, which, more often than not, is showy and cheerfully bizarre.
