Campus Strictness: The strictness isn't bad, but they've been getting worse. Also, their response to protests varies wildly, from ignoring the whole thing to banning sidewalk chalk to slapping people with unreasonable fines.

Campus Strictness: ResLife is probably the campus administrative office that impacts students the most. They are asinine. Without them, the university would probably be a much better place to live.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Wesleyan mostly cares about student safety above all else and doesn't try to get students in trouble. If you live in a dorm strictness definitely varies by RA but you can always party elsewhere.

Campus Strictness: There have been some issues this year with Public Safety (on-campus police), but fortunately action has been taken to appoint a new head of Public Safety. This past year there was at least one accusation of violence between an officer and a student.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Wesleyan is fairly lenient with many things as long as the students are put in serious danger. Having people over completely ok. Underage drinking is punished but people are generally not caught. Throwing parties is totally ok as long as it doesn't get too crazy or it exceeds the max occupancy level of that house/room.
Wesleyan is very very strict when it comes to breaking the academic Honor Code. Cheating leads to automatic suspension. We take the Honor Code very seriously.

The Wesleyan "authorities" (e.g., Public Safety or "P-Safe") are very lax in their enforcement of school rules/the law. On any given day, you will see multiple people sitting on Foss Hill smoking weed, sometimes out of conspicuously large bongs, and they will not get "busted." However, if you are stupid and do something right in front of the Po-Po, they might get you in trouble. Getting in "trouble" ranges from getting a warning to getting SJB'd (sent in front of the Student Judicial Board), which could result in another warning, writing a paper/apology letter, community service hours, or more serious punishments, depending on what you did wrong. There is very little crime committed by Wes kids other than underage drinking and drug use, some vandalism (art), and public nudity. Fire safety inspections happen in residences randomly, but they are not allowed to open drawers, so as long as you don't leave illegal things out in the open, you will be fine.

Interaction with the Middletown Police is strained, after an incident where they broke up a party using unnecessary force. However, students mostly only interact with P-Safe officers, and the Middletown Police only come when there is an emergency or a particularly rowdy party.
