Athletics: VCU men's basketball is a very big deal. Students go crazy before, during and after the games. School spirit, especially for men's basketball is through the roof. No matter what the circumstances, VCU fans are willing to travel anywhere with the team to show their support.

Athletics: VCU is a HUGE basketball school, and that's probably due to the fact that we do not have a football team, despite the coolness of the factor. The games are so intense that tickets for students had to be in lottery form due to their such high demand. And a sport's popularity at VCU is dependent on what people like. For example, I've never been to a baseball game so I don't really know if my school's team is all that great because I'm not concerned about that sport; but I love soccer and basketball and those sports seem to do really well. Overall, the sports at VCU can be awesome and lively and invigorating, it just depends on what sport your into...

The men's basketball team at VCU is the one that students immediately recognize as the favorite. There is no football team, and basketball is truly our one competitive and nationally recognized sport. Attending the games is free for students, and the arena is almost always full every game.

If playing sports is more your thing, there are a ton of intramural opportunities for students to get involved in. Flag football, basketball, and soccer are student favorites. Teams are either same-sex or coed, and divisions are determined according to students' skill levels. Dodgeball is also a growing intramural activity, ending its season with a major tournament. Intramural sports are fun but are also highly competitive among teams. Often a team that forms during a student's freshman year continues until graduation. Being on an intramural team is a great way to get physical activity, socialize, and meet new people. And if you don't like to play sports, it's just as fun to watch and cheer on your friends!

School Spirit
VCU's school spirit grows as our athletic programs take top honors, and we receive high honors for academic achievements. Most students have some sort of VCU apparel, and it's common to see the VCU sticker on cars on and around campus. However, our school spirit pales in comparison to the other universities in the state.
