3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The Freshman dorms are small, the Sophomore dorms are newer and more spacious, and the upperclassman dorms are set up as a quad.

Health & Safety: With a small campus, and a small community, everyone knows everybody. I have never had any security issues on campus. Just bikes being stolen... we have an open campus, people don’t lock their bikes, and thus a couple hundred bikes are stolen every year. Lesson learned... lock your bikes.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: VU has an amazing international student outreach. We have students from all over the world, as well as all around the community. There is a vibrant Diversity Club... there are always events and conferences on campus.

Nightlife: If you are looking for a school with a party scene - Vanguard is not your school. We do have social lives, and enjoy parties, dancing, hanging out... but let’s just say that we are sober and enjoying one another’s company more than the substance.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: You sign a contract before coming to Vanguard... so you know what you are in for. They are not overly harsh or strict, however, they do expect that you will honor your word. The “open hours” in the dorms become more flexible as you become an upperclassman, and additionally, it actually is nice to not have the opposite sex pestering you at all hours. No drinking, no drugs, no pre-marital sex. If you “break” the rules, they are kind and have a very grace filled attitude; however, they do have a desire for a wholesome, uplifting environment.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: They do their best to create options in the Caf and at the on campus shop... however, it is still very limited. There are only two food locations on campus, and not many healthy options. But, they take suggestions very seriously! You ask them to bring something as a food option and they do their very best to make it happen.

Local Atmosphere: It’s Orange County: shopping, the beach, Disneyland, more shopping, hipster influences, huge coffee house scene, more shopping, and LA is a short drive away.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The registration process was a breeze; not only is the staff helpful, but current students help to make the process comfortable. The workload is manageable, study and you will reap the rewards. The study spots on campus are limited... however, if you are creative, you can find your own little secret spots.

Academics: Communications is a great major. The head of the department is amazingly kind, has high expectations, but really invests in his students. There are lots of directions that you can take with this major, so be prepared to make some choices. The Comm Lab is AMAZING... it is a glorified computer lab with up to date editing software, professional grade film equipment, a graphic design room, and just a 24 hour place for Comm majors. Not to mention FREE printing.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The career center is beyond helpful... the only thing, you have to reach out to them. You will be glad once you do!

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I know each and every one of my professors personally. If I have questions, concerns, or just care to talk - my professors are just an email or Facebook message away. I enjoy my major classes, they are flexible to make my credits fit my needs, and I have around 20 people in each of my classes.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Costa Mesa is hipster central. You have places like The Lab and OC Mix that will give you some variety in Hipster dining. Other than that, you are 15 minutes away from most any beach city. Most all dining is driving distance - unless you consider Starbucks and Subway which are right down the street.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: Vanguard University has a beautiful community of facility and students. The campus is nothing to write home about; however, it is growing and developing. They have an active Student Government, excellent professors, and this is a great small school experience. Not to mention - the academic scholarships and grants are very generous.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: It's nice and pretty. Everyone is pretty much a hipster and we all hang at local coffee shops. South Coast Plaza is always poppin' and the Irvine Spectrum.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: They don't have a football, but soccer and basketball is a big deal there. They pretty much our all-stars.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of places where people can live off campus.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: It's relatively good. It keeps you from starving so that's a good thing. It's college not a 5 star restaurant so I always keep that in mind. There's a salad bar, a sandwich, and whatever they made in the kitchen. I had the 10 meal plan, which meant I had 200 dollars in flex which was pretty rad and I never went hungry.

College Sophomore

Majors: I haven't had an internship yet because I am going into my sophomore year.

College Sophomore

Majors: Haven't had the opportunity yet.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: If you don't have a car you're kind of stuck, but there is a Subway, Starbucks, and a Mexican restaurant that you can walk to it's less than a mile away and there is also a jack in the box right across from it.

College Sophomore

Nightlife: We are on contract and we are not allowed to consume alcohol or smoke.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I started off as a Business Major, but my business math prof noticed I was struggling with math and asked if I really wanted to do business and I honestly didn't I just thought it'd be best for me. He recommended Sociology and although I never thought about I took a risk and decided to change my major and I absolutely love it. There are so many courses to choose from and the classes are modern, yet classic and very spacious.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The alumni are wonderful. I actually got to be apart of this program called The Bridge program where they worked with Hispanic students to get our feet wet into what college consist of. I was deathly afraid and they were there to pull me through and even though I struggled they were always there to give me advice and talk me through my issues.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: It's your typical classes, plus bible classes because it is a Christian school. The professor's are really genuine and really want to help you learn, the workload is normal like any other college, and they do anything they can to help you out with your needs whether it's tutoring or personal issues.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The sociology department is wonderful. The advisors are so nice and really want to help you succeed.
